KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha Unified School District and Kenosha County government offices will be closed to the public Monday due to dangerous winter weather conditions expected across southeastern Wisconsin.
District officials announced Sunday evening that all KUSD schools will be closed Monday, March 16, after the National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning in effect through Monday afternoon. The decision was announced by KUSD Chief Communications Officer Tanya Ruder.
The closure affects all schools in the district for the entire day.
County government leaders also announced widespread closures of public-facing buildings Monday because of the expected storm conditions. The Kenosha County Courthouse, Kenosha County Administration Building, Human Services Building, Molinaro Building and the County Center will all be closed to the public.
County officials said employees who are able to work remotely should do so.
Despite the closures, several essential county operations will continue. Facilities staff, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, Brookside and Willowbrook facilities, information technology personnel, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Highways Department will remain operational to maintain critical services.
County officials said reducing travel is intended to help keep residents safe and make it easier for emergency responders and highway crews to manage the storm.
The National Weather Service has warned that blizzard conditions could create dangerous travel and severely reduced visibility across the region through Monday afternoon.
Residents are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.

Yes, i work for the state where the taxpayers pay my wages, and I totally agree there should be no remote working anymore.They were supposed to take this away over a year ago, and there’s still people doing it.And trust me, when they work remotely, they are not working So they are getting paid for doing nothing!

How so? Roads have been clear since mid morning. We cancelled school and courthouse for what? We live in Wisconsin. This is nothing.

I was out at 3 AM in a freaking blizzard. The roads were snow packed, hardly plowed and not fit for man nor beast. To think of kids standing on the side of the road, waiting for school buses to slide into them because the roads are slick.
Schools are closed for the safety of the children, both in temperatures, wind, snow accumulation and safety of the bus driving. Good call for the schools !!
Even better that out here in the county, they did it early Sunday evening to give parents an opportunity to figure out what to do with the kids the next morning.
The every day driving public whether they’re going to their 9 to 5 jobs or people going to government buildings to use county services can choose to go out on the roads if they want to. But for the people that drive small cars or sports cars without snow tires and aren’t used to driving in the cold, snowy blizzard windy, dark weather, they shouldn’t be out there at all.
I plow Snow privately. Have for many many years. I’ve seen a lot of small cars out on the roads doing 25 or 30 miles an hour on a 40 or 50 mile an hour road because they’re scared to death of sliding or driving in the snow. Or they just can’t get traction. They are creating more of a hazard than anything.
If you have an important job where you have to be there then buy the appropriate vehicle that can get you there in all types of weather. Plenty of four-wheel-drive options out there. Sure you’re not gonna drive the speed limit but at least you’re not gonna slide off into a ditch either.
The closing of schools was for the safety of the children. Plenty of snow days in the calendar to use up, it’s not like it cost any money for the schools.
Yes these children all needed to have someone stay home and watch them or they had to go somewhere else.
Did you know that when school’s closed daycare is also closed at least out here in the county? Sure it’s a tough decision but the school doesn’t care about anything or anybody else but their children getting to and from the schools. And as you see, it’s done as a group according to the bus company. Do you think the bus company wants the liability of putting a bus full of kids into a ditch? Do you think any bus driver wants to worry about sliding off a neighborhood road into a group of five kids standing there shivering on the road because they can’t stand in the grass on somebody’s property.?
You argue about the county buildings county services being closed. Same scenario. Employees struggling to get to work. So you get an extra day off!

The snow came late in the night. Was in full force as busses were heading out. Kids didn’t need to be standing outside.
I’m not saying don’t go to work, just make sure you can get there without clogging up the roads by spinning out.
Again, schools have a set number of snow days built in. This late in the season there still are a few left.
Error on the safety on the kids.
And yes the last couple of years was very little snow. We aren’t talking about number of storms we’re talking about what it’s doing during pick up and drop off times.
Busses typically run on time and within minutes of scheduled stop times. In a storm like Monday morning the kids may have been outside for a few minutes or 15 minutes or more as the buses were slow moving. Or got stuck and not show at all.
How is that a good scenario anytime ?

I can remember ONE TIME when the courthouse closed, and that was during the snowmageddon blizzard of Feb. 2011, when two feet of snow fell. Entire highways were impassable.

Driving conditions were dangerous this morning. Fewer people on the road made things safer for those of us who HAD to be out and about. Fewer cars, lower chance of accidents. More workplaces should have made decisions like the county and Educator’s CU.

It was all a bit dramatic and of course , a knee jerk reaction! even aldi’s was closed , it was ridiculous! I get that corporations and private companies have learned how to work remotely , but it does NOT belong in government , where the taxpayers pay the wages. They DONT work from home! They are receiving pay and not doing anything for it!

Weather closings are not done lightly but they are intended to protect the community and allow for safe and efficient removal of snow and ice. We are lucky that we did not get the worst of this but remember that just because it isn’t so bad in your neighborhood doesn’t mean that’s the case elsewhere.
Blizzard? We drove to Illinois for over twenty years EVERY day for work. Never would we call in sick or NEVER did they ask us to stay home.
It would be an embarrassment to do so. Yes we got there late sometimes and yes it took us longer but you planned accordingly and left a bit earlier if possible. We were thankful not to be written up for late arrival.
