KENOSHA, Wis. — A Racine man who led a Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase through Somers, reaching speeds of about 120 mph before shutting off his headlights and ultimately crashing into another motorist, was sentenced Wednesday by Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Heather Iverson to one year in state prison followed by two years of extended supervision.
Jose Peralta, 21, previously pleaded guilty to felony fleeing or eluding an officer. Four felony counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety were dismissed but read in as part of the case. Peralta was ordered to begin serving his prison sentence immediately.
The case dates back to June 27, 2025, when Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Dorval was monitoring traffic on Highway 31 in the Village of Somers.
According to the criminal complaint, Dorval clocked a grey sedan traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone while weaving through traffic and passing other vehicles. When Dorval attempted to catch up, he reported accelerating to nearly 100 mph before activating his emergency lights and siren near Highway 195.
Peralta allegedly continued to pull away, forcing Dorval to reach approximately 120 mph to close the distance. Peralta continued weaving through traffic before extinguishing the vehicle’s headlights and tail lights near Braun Road.
The complaint says Peralta then sped through intersections at approximately 80 mph before reaching the area of 21st Street and Highway 31, where he crashed into another motorist.
The vehicle contained three passengers: Peralta’s brother, Antonio Jaimes, and two others, Anakin Lozano and Eraina Estrada. Estrada told investigators she became afraid for her safety and repeatedly asked Peralta to stop. She eventually covered her eyes because she was scared of what was going to happen.
Lozano similarly told investigators he repeatedly asked Peralta to stop and let him out of the vehicle. Peralta continued fleeing, according to the complaint.
Investigators also determined that Peralta did not have a driver’s license and had never been issued one.
Peralta was initially charged with five felonies — fleeing or eluding an officer and four counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety. He was initially held on $15,000 cash bail, which he posted in July 2025.
On April 13, 2026, Peralta pleaded guilty to the fleeing charge. The four reckless-endangerment felonies were dismissed but read in, meaning Iverson could consider the underlying conduct when imposing sentence.
At Wednesday morning’s sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Sarah Norkus appeared for the state and attorney Kristian Nordby represented Peralta.
Iverson imposed a three-year sentence consisting of one year of initial confinement in state prison and two years of extended supervision. Peralta received 11 days of sentence credit.
Iverson also ordered Peralta to pay $16,248.50 in restitution. His $15,000 cash bail was revoked and ordered applied first toward restitution and then toward court costs.
Peralta will be prohibited from possessing weapons or consuming alcohol or illegal drugs while on extended supervision. He must also comply with treatment and counseling deemed appropriate by his supervising agent.

80MPH on Highway 31 isn’t anything out of the ordinary.
The most shocking part of this story is a KCSO deputy monitoring traffic on Highway 31 in Somers. I travel through there 4x a day, 6 days a week, and have never once seen a deputy monitoring traffic.
Peralta continued weaving through traffic before extinguishing the vehicle’s headlights and tail lights near Braun Road.
So…his headlights were on fire?
