KENOSHA, Wis. — Emergency crews were called Tuesday afternoon to a home on the city’s south side after a firearm discharged and a child was injured. The child is the son of a high-ranking Kenosha Police Officer.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, which took over the case at the request of the Kenosha Police Department to avoid any appearance of impropriety, said a 9-year-old obtained a handgun after accessing a locked gun safe.
The gun accidentally discharged, causing minor injuries to the child’s hand. KCE is told by Insiders that the child’s hand was injured by the slide pinching his skin, and not the bullet.
Deputies emphasized that the handgun involved was not the Kenosha police member’s duty weapon. The investigation remains open and active, and officials said no additional details will be released at this time.
No charges have been announced. Kenosha County Eye is not naming the officer or the child, as all indications point to an accidental incident that could have had far more serious consequences.

Also, the firearm was not “accidentally” discharged, the kid pulled the trigger. No trigger lock and an inadequate safe lock = child endangerment.

I saw what bullets did to cans, bottles and metal. If a gun house kid is 9 and thinks a gun is a toy at 9 someone is fuckin up.
At 10 i was taking a .22 rifle to shoot in the Dunes when my parents were out and saw many other kids doing the same.

Crazy on all the reports and Commets on this issue, the gun was locked up, the 9 year old fired the weapon, was not injured via bullet, skin between the Thum and finger was pinched in slid, the officer reported the incident immediately, So let not make this about the KPD or Bad parent , This is about a 9 year old that needs some education on fire arms and re direction, I myself keep my fire arms locked and not loaded . But can still get to it very fast if needed. I feel KPD and the officer are handling this very professionally and correct,
