KENOSHA, Wis. — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Kenosha County Veteran of the Year Award.
The annual award, which was established in 2025, recognizes veterans for their accomplishments and contributions to the community after their military service has ended. Kenosha resident Milt Dean was the first recipient of the honor last year.
The 2026 award will be presented during the annual Veterans Appreciation Picnic on May 29 at the Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park.
Nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. on April 30. Veterans who are nominated must be residents of Kenosha County.
The award is intended to recognize veterans who have continued serving their communities long after leaving the military.
“We have so many exceptional veterans in Kenosha County, and this is an opportunity to salute them for their service to our country and our community,” a statement in the release said. “I encourage people who know an outstanding veteran to make a nomination.”
County Veterans Service Officer Jennifer Blasi said the county expects another strong group of nominees this year.
“This award is a way to honor veterans who make a difference in the community,” Blasi said. “We look forward to reviewing what we expect to be another impressive list of nominees.”
The winner will be selected by a committee that includes members of the Kenosha County Veterans Service Office staff. All nominees will be notified that they were nominated, although nominators may choose to remain anonymous.
Residents can submit nominations online at https://www.kenoshacountywi.gov/VeteranOfTheYear. Paper nomination forms are also available through the Kenosha County Veterans Service Office by calling 262-605-6690.
