KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha Police Captain James Beller has secured the unanimous endorsement of the Kenosha Professional Police Association Board of Directors, giving his sheriff campaign another major boost as he seeks to unseat Sheriff David Zoerner.
According to the campaign, KPPA President Rusten Sheskey informed Beller that the board voted unanimously to back him for sheriff. The endorsement comes from the association representing the Kenosha Police Department, one of the largest municipal law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin.
The endorsement is significant because it reflects support from rank-and-file officers and police leadership in the county’s largest city. Beller has repeatedly emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong working relationship between the Kenosha Police Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, particularly on major investigations, emergency response, and countywide public safety issues.
In a statement, Beller said he was grateful for the association’s “unanimous trust, support, and endorsement,” adding that sheriff candidates had the opportunity to make their case and that he was honored to have been selected.
Beller also said the endorsement reflects confidence in his qualifications, experience, and public service background. He stated that the KPPA understands the importance of the relationship between the police department and sheriff’s office and the role a sheriff plays in strengthening that relationship.
Beller is a lifelong Kenosha County resident, U.S. Army veteran, and has 28 years of law enforcement experience. His campaign says he is the only sheriff candidate to have attended the FBI National Academy and to have earned the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association credential, in addition to holding multiple certifications and degrees.
Beller is one of several Republicans running for sheriff. Zoerner, a Democrat running as a Republican, is also seeking reelection. The sheriff’s race is expected to be one of the most closely watched local races in the county this year.
The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 11.
