RACINE COUNTY, Wis. — A former elite figure skater who rolled her vehicle while heavily intoxicated with her young children inside is now facing new charges after authorities say she was caught driving again—this time without a valid license—just months after serving a short jail sentence.
Megan M. Schultz, 36, now listed as a Waterford resident, was charged April 27, 2026, with misdemeanor operating while revoked due to OWI after a traffic stop on April 23 at approximately 8:05 p.m., according to court records.

According to the complaint, a Racine County Sheriff’s deputy ran Schultz’s license plate and learned her driving privileges were revoked due to the prior OWI. The deputy then conducted a traffic stop shortly after 8 p.m. Schultz allegedly had her children in the vehicle at the time—marking a second time she has been criminally charged while driving with them.
The new charge follows a widely reported 2024 Kenosha crash in which Schultz flipped her vehicle onto its side after striking parked cars in the 3600 block of 40th Street—while her two young children were inside.
According to prior reporting and case records, Schultz’s blood alcohol concentration was approximately 0.22—nearly three times the legal limit—at the time of the crash. Officers reported she admitted to drinking, had glassy eyes, an odor of intoxicants, and was unsteady on her feet. A container in the vehicle was later determined to contain alcohol.
Her children—ages 6 and 8—were inside the vehicle during the crash. Despite the violent rollover, they were not seriously injured.

Schultz was ultimately sentenced by Judge Heather Iverson to just one week in jail, a penalty that drew criticism given the severity of the incident and the risk posed to the children.
That sentence now appears to have had little deterrent effect.

Court records show Schultz’s license was revoked as a result of the OWI case. Still, authorities allege she was back behind the wheel on April 23—raising renewed concerns about accountability and public safety.
Schultz is scheduled to appear for her initial hearing on June 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in Racine County Circuit Court.
The new charge has reignited scrutiny over how the earlier case was handled, particularly the leniency of the sentence in a case that could have easily ended in tragedy.

But I always wondered why cops are allowed to run a plate when no traffic offense was happening or occurred in their presence ?
Is seeing a familiar face drive by enough to run a plate ?
Is knowing that familiar face doesn’t have a valid license enough for a stop even if no actual driving infraction occurred ?
Sure we want cops to be observant but ……
It’s my understanding that the DMV flags the drivers license and plate # in the system of anyone that has had a OWI. I don’t think the police just look for the people specifically, but once they run the plate or drivers license, then they see the flagged notation.
Not an officer but I do know that Police do not need probable cause or even reasonable suspicion to do so. They can run plates any time as the government requires valid registration and a licensed driver. The officer might have simply been driving behind her and ran the plate. Simple as that, they need no reason and it’s part of policing our roads.
It’s called probable cause. If you don’t have a seat belt on that is probable cause enough for someone to pull you over.

These are separate offenses. She was driving after her license was revoked. She might have qualified for an occupational permit to allow limited driving. Also, in her prior sentence, was an ignition interlock device ordered?
To add…it’s still on her to get her ducks in a row to drive legally.

It’s their job to police our roads. They are not abusing any laws by running a plate.
Hopefully since she will now be in Racine court, maybe she will get the sentence she has coming and will serve jail time!! I feel bad for her kids!!
I listened to the audio. It appears she has an occupational permit but was operating outside the hours allowed. When you get one you have to predict when you will be driving a car during any given week. There is a $50 fee IIRC to change the hours. The prosecutor can go different ways with this — stick with the driving after revocation charge or amend to operating outside permitted hours.
You pick your hours you can drive. Not the Judge. I think it’s also limited to like 40 hours in a week. You can amend your hours for 50.00 per change

Oh, I see. She gets to serve her time at home, in maximum comfort, of course. There’s a precedent ruling showing how lenient our courts can be if the defendant belongs. Bubba from the ghetto would be treated very differently for the same offense, or for something lighter.
Odd for a cop to just run a random plate like that. My guess is it was flagged by one of those license plate number collector computers/processors a lot of the cop cars have. Normally once a cop passes a car with a flagged plate, they are alerted. In other words, don’t drive after your allowed hours or don’t drive a car that has a plate registered to someone who has a suspended or marked plate.
The listed owner is revoked so I pulled you over?
There’s no high crime area in Racine this deputy could keep herself busy patrolling.
