KENOSHA, Wis. — High school girls from southeastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois are being invited to audition for the 2027 Diva Quest singing scholarship competition, with the top performer eligible to receive up to $2,000 toward post-high-school education.
Diva Quest, presented by the Riverport Chorus, is open to girls in grades 9 through 12 and is designed to give young vocalists an opportunity to perform, receive coaching and compete for scholarship money. The annual program began in 2007.
Aspiring contestants can submit video auditions through Saturday, Oct. 31. Applicants must submit two songs from two different musical genres. The audition recording does not need professional studio-quality audio, but organizers say the sound should be clear. Videos can be emailed to [email protected].
Judges with professional music backgrounds will evaluate contestants on sound, music, expression and showmanship. Ten finalists will then be selected to advance to the live competition.
Those finalists will receive coaching from musicians, music educators and performers on song selection, vocal presentation and performance. They will also learn a four-part a cappella song to perform with the Riverport Chorus. Most rehearsals will be held Monday evenings at Wilmot Union High School, 11112 308th Ave. in Wilmot.
“The Diva Quest winner can receive up to $2,000 in scholarship monies,” Diva Quest co-founder Lisa Mushel said. Smaller scholarships will also be awarded to runners-up.
The 2027 Diva Quest Scholarship Program Show is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30, 2027, at Journey Church, 10700 75th St. in Kenosha. The finalists will perform before a panel of judges and a live voting audience alongside Riverport Chorus and other entertainers.
Diva Quest has drawn previous finalists from schools throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, including Tremper, Wilmot Union, Westosha Central, Shoreland Lutheran, Union Grove, Waterford, Burlington, Antioch and several others.
