KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha’s Chief Judge Wynne P. Laufenberg has overridden a Kenosha County court rule requiring attorneys and other litigants to disclose when artificial intelligence was used to prepare court filings.

Laufenberg, who is also a Racine County Circuit Court judge, serves as chief judge of Wisconsin’s Second Judicial Administrative District, which includes Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties. On Sept. 23, Laufenberg signed a district-wide interim policy governing generative artificial intelligence that supersedes any local rule inconsistent with it. Second Distrist AI Policy

  3. The real battle is going to expose attorney drawing up their own pleadings, briefings etc vs legal assistants and/or AI.
    Requiring notice for AI should require notice for legal assistants drawing it up too.
    Error in attorney filings are often mitigated by saying my paralegal made a mistake.
    Yet bar rules require supervision by attorney so that defense may work in court it may not work in a professional complaint.
    Everyone paying 300 an hour for an attorney who billed 8 hours on a brief and has 80% of it done by a non lawyer legal assistant you’re getting shafted.

    1. Every conviction can be appealed based on AI being used. Errors are plentiful when you type in random garbage and expect a program to make it sound professional. Hiding the use of AI is wrong and probably illegal when it applies to court proceedings.
