KENOSHA, Wis. — The battle for control of Journey Church is escalating, with 162 members demanding the opportunity to remove the church's seven elected deacons, church leaders refusing to recognize the proposed vote, and an attorney representing dissatisfied members warning that legal action could follow if the Board attempts to stop their October 25 meeting. The seven deacons — Don Daniels, Bryan Drummond, Michelle Erzberger, Sly Marinca, James Mathews, Frank Porcaro and Wil Siewert — have rejected the members' attempt to convene a binding meeting to vote on their removal, despite mounting criticism over the firing of longtime Executive Pastor Jon Brown, questions about church finances and concerns about transparency. The Wisconsin/Northern Michigan Ministries Network of the Assemblies of God has now publicly sided with the Board, declaring the proposed meeting invalid. Meanwhile, Journey Church leadership has stopped responding to inquiries from Kenosha County Eye, leaving unanswered questions about why the seven deacons remain in their positions despite a formal effort by members to replace them.
