A 16-year-old student at Indian Trail High School and Academy has been charged with four very serious felonies for two separate car chases that allegedly occurred on April 27, 2024. Sunny A. Patel was briefly charged as a juvenile, but quickly was waived into adult court.

Patel was charged with two count of Attempting to Flee or Elude an Officer and two counts of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. The former comes with a maximum prison sentence of six years each, and the latter, 12.5 years each. He faces almost 40 years in the Wisconsin Prison system if convicted of all charges. In Juvenile court, Judge Jodi Meier found that that “due to the personality and prior record of Patel, as well as the type and seriousness of the offense, that waiver into the adult system [is] best because it is contrary to the best interests of the juvenile or public for the juvenile court to retain these matters.”

Today, Patel waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to all four felonies.

On April 27, 2024 at approximately 10:58 p.m. Officer Moorehouse of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department reports he was monitoring traffic in the 8600 block of State Highway 31, in the Village of Pleasant Prairie, County of Kenosha, State of Wisconsin, when he observed a white Tesla driving south on State Highway 31. Officer Moorehouse observed the driver who appeared to be a younger male with shaggy style hair, later identified as Sunny Patel.

Officer Moorehouse reports he pulled into the roadway and attempted to obtain the vehicle’s registration. While attempting to catch up to the vehicle, Officer Moorehouse reports he had to travel in excess of 70 mph in a posted 45 mph and was not getting closer. Officer Moorehouse reports he activated his front facing dash mounted radar unit and the radar showed 109 mph. Officer Moorehouse reports he activated his lights and sirens.

Officer Moorehouse reports the defendant continued south on State Highway 31 at speeds in excess of 100 mph, crossing over railroad tracks. The vehicle continued to 88th Avenue where it turned north failing to stop at the posted stop sign. Officer Moorehouse observed a black SUV driving south on 88th Avenue approaching the intersection. The defendant then travelled through a construction zone with no construction workers present. Officer Moorehouse reports his speeds were in excess of 110 mph and the Tesla was still gaining distance from him. Officer Moorehouse reports as he passed through the roundabout at Bain Station, he terminated the pursuit due to the reckless speeds of the defendant.

A short time later, other Pleasant Prairie Police Officers initiated a new pursuit of the defendant’s vehicle. Officer Haske of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department was made aware of Officer Moorehouse’s pursuit of a white Tesla. Officer Haske located the vehicle near the 7800 block of Highway 50, in the Village of Pleasant Prairie, County of Kenosha, State of Wisconsin. Officer Haske activated his radar and observed the defendant driving at 108 mph.

Officer Haske activated his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a pursuit. The defendant continued to accelerate away. The defendant rapidly and recklessly passed at least three other vehicles in the roadway. The area in which the defendant drove over 100 mph was all in a posted 50 mph speed limit zone.

Patel Stopped On The Side Of The Road
(PPPD)

The defendant continued eastbound and Officers Stettner and Matz in a marked patrol squad car attempted to stop the vehicle as it neared the 7200 block of Highway 50. The officers got behind the vehicle as it turned southbound on Green Bay Road, and upon slowing enough, they headed off the vehicle and initiated a modified high-risk stop.

The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver was taken into custody, identified as Sunny Patel. Officer Moorehouse reports the defendant was 100% the person he had previously seen driving the vehicle as it had passed him.

Officer Haske reports he made contact with the driver, identified both by Indian Trail High School ID and verbally as Sunny Patel.

Kenosha County Circuit Court Commissioner Bill Michel II previously set Patel’s bail at $20,000 cash. It was paid and Patel is out of custody pending trial.

“Another reckless driver, apprehended safely. One of our officers witnessed this vehicle’s dangerous behavior near Green Bay Rd & 95th Street. Despite the initial attempt to stop, the driver sped away at speeds over 110mph.

Though the initial pursuit was terminated for safety reasons, officers initiated a second pursuit due to the continued danger to other traffic. The vehicle eventually stopped and officers arrested the driver without further incident.

We’re grateful to the motorists who yielded to emergency vehicles during this incident. Kudos to both our 2nd Shift & 3rd Shift Officers for their swift action in apprehending the individual.” – Pleasant Prairie Police Spokesman Officer Jordan Haske.

  1. 16 with a Tesla hmmm interesting thats the problem with these kids now they either get to much to over compensate or parents aren’t around enough then they get in trouble and the parents want to act like the kids were good, 16 out at almost 11 in a Tesla Lord help these kids.

    14
    2
    1. To judge a 16 who’s driving a very expensive car at 11 pm on a Saturday night. How dare you !!

Of course you are correct in your assessment ( not assumption) of the parents of this juvenile.

Blame society ? Blame the system ?

No. I blame the parents !!

They need to be thrown in jail

      13
      5
      1. You realize most Teslas are not that expensive, right….?

This kid’s address is in White Caps….I doubt they have shit.

        5
        3
      2. You can’t blame everything kids do on the parents. Sometimes kids just do stupid stuff regardless what their parents tell them! I’m pretty sure (although, I COULD be wrong) his parents didn’t teach their kid to run from the police.

        5
        2
  2. How does a car brand tell people how to evaluate someone? Do your chlothes make the person you are, your house, car? It’s just Plain and simple lack of parenting!!!! Spoiled kids do dumb shit because the parents bail them out of bad situations. Teach your kids the value of a buck and also that their actions can follow and haunt them for years! When is pleasant prarie gonna stop chasing people on the streets…. When an innocent person gets killed???? The kid needs to sit and think about what he did in a cell. 40 years is crazy but he needs to be taught a lesson

    6
    2
    1. Pursuits are going to increase due to the prevalence of surveillance cameras. Gotta pay for those annual fees!

      1
      4
      1. Would t you assume pursuits would lessen because there are more cameras…..? You have to assume you will more likely be caught

        1. Nope. I don’t think most people know about them. Besides, clowns like this kid don’t care about speed limits and such. The cameras aren’t a deterrent – they are a tool to track down wanted vehicles.

    2. nice contradiction. “Spoiled kids do dumb shit because the parents bail them out of bad situations.” TESLA@16=SPOILED

      10
    3. Shouldn’t no 16 year old be driving a Tesla Period you dont earn the money to really know the value of a Tesla so why be driving one at 16, lack of parenting is what i mean by that

      4
      1
  3. No, it’s not necessarily lack of parenting.

I used to think it was but nearly 50 years in law enforcement educated me that even the best parents who did their damndest can have screwy kids. One told me that maybe he should have told his daughter to do all the wrong things so that she would disobey him and do the right stuff.

Of course parents should do their jobs but I have seen many families bankrupted and broken by trying to help kids who simply won’t clean up their act.

There are things we can improve. Our juvenile justice system needs to do more to hold kids accountable. Same with our schools but then again teachers used to be role models and now…well, look at KUSD.

    12
    3
    1. “I have seen many families bankrupted and broken by trying to help kids ….”

      ?….. help them ….. ? Why ?

When I was growing up (I’m 64) my father told me, if I ever was in jail, not to call him. Because if I was in jail it was for a reason. I fucked up !

Paying for bail. Paying for lawyers. Paying their restitution. All things parents do FOR their children that they shouldn’t.

Your job as a parent is to teach your kids everything they need to know to leave home. By 18.

Cook, clean, take care of their health, their appearance. How to talk to people. Respect for others and others property. Work ethics.
Work in a household for no pay. Pay your own way.

Parents today give their kids phones, cars, car insurance and a whole list of gives.

      This has to stop !!!

Because by not teaching your children all these things, when they start interacting with society they become our problem. And the damage they do.

So teach your kids to do everything starting at 2 years old. First job, pick up your toys.

Remember, you are not your child’s friend, you’re their parent !!

When they say they hate you, trust me, they will come back to you from their late twenties on saying thank you. That being hard on them has made them self sufficient and successful.
And they know that by seeing their peers not being.

      15
      1
      1. Helping them doesn’t mean wiping their asses. It means setting a good example. Otherwise I agree with your asshat rant.

    2. You know what you do stop going bankrupt helping kids that don’t care and they keep doing it because parents keep bailing them out its called Accountability for both, if a kid aint cleaning up their act then quit giving them luxuries see we give our kids too much just because every other person has it these kids dont know what it really means to earn anything because once again too many parents over compensating, too many trying to be their friends with their kids

    3. Still, good parents can have kids who mess up.

My own got stopped for speeding — low level flying — and I knew the officer who called me. I told him that I would be right there. I showed up, handed my kid the ticket and said, “Tomorrow you’re going to get a job and pay it.”

      6
      1
      1. So let me get this straight.

They are driving a car. They must have insurance. Pay for gas. Pay for whatever they’re doing at wherever they’re going.

And they don’t have a job already ??

So who’s paying for everything up to this point ? You ????
        You are the problem !!
Kids from 14 on up can work and get paid. Restaurants hire bussers at 14. Mow lawns. Rake leaves. Shovel snow. All before 16 and the license.

You are your kids worst enemy

        5
        1
  4. Bill Michel II likes a $20,000 bail unless you’re a pedophile, then he drops the amount considerably.

    1. As a fellow legal professional, you are aware that judges and commissioners don’t randomly come up with bail amounts, right? Especially, since the pedophile you wrote about was charges with misdemeanors and not felonies.

      1
      6
      1. Take a look at a couple of the others recently that have something else in common then get back to us.

      2. As another fellow legal professional, Michel just sucks regardless of whether you want to engage in a debate over bail.

  5. Judge Jodi Meier, thank you for seeing that he is a thug and only going to get worse if not taught a lesson in life now!!

    4
    1
  6. This is an indictment of Michel and the commissioners. This kid is a dipshit but he gets a $20k bail whereas all these hood POS and gangbangers are getting like $2k bail’s

Bill, that’s why you weren’t elected judge.

    8
    1
  7. Michel was appointed by the court to represent my son when he was 18 on a felony charge….. Public school to prison pipeline. Did zippo and now he’s deciding cases for 16 year old children. Dude should bend over and kiss his life goodbye.

    But he’s a child???? C’mon…

  8. I wonder if his dad is the dr that worked at advanced pain management and got many people hooked on opioids? If it’s that Dr Patel he was the number 1 doctor who put people on opioids in Wisconsin.

  9. Nice use of the word kudos Officer Haske. Try to be more professional when you talk about your traffic stop.

    1. They live in White Caps…they probably mortgaged their house to pay the bail and buy the cheapest ass model Tesla.

    1. I agree but all mammalian teenagers are retarded — they just proved bored killer whale teenagers are responsible for the sinking of yachts

  10. It’s hard because we all want better for our children. I’m guilty of it. I’m also a big believer in tough love. You can do both. I think a big problem today is that way to many parents are very extreme in one direction or the other. Teach them respect and the value of hard work. But also reward them. I thought my parents were hard asses but I’m so glad now they weren’t my “friends “.

  11. Pull the logs out of your own eyes! …which ones of you have never sped especially as a teenager for whatever reasons …and especially as adults when angered or in an energy! …just thank God nobody was injured! This sentence is excessive especially when there are real murderers out there that the system has let out if jail or on probation.

    6
    1
  12. Speeding is not what this kid was doing, his speed was reckless. He just got lucky that he didn’t kill himself or anyone else. As an insurance agent I have seen it happen far to often. A client in Virginia didn’t give their child a car but he stole one of theirs and killed himself & 2 of his friends. A former co-worker’s husband was driving to work and a teenager driving recklessly lost control, went airborne crossed the line and hit him. He had to be airlifted and spent months in the hospital and was never able to work again. This idiot should be counting his blessings that he is only facing these charges!

  13. This individual is not a child he is a Juvenile and definitely knows right from wrong, especially being 2 years from adulthood. He needs to learn that with poor choices comes consequences, because based on the parents actions to bale him out he isn’t learning. Some of this younger generation has very to little respect for those around them on the road.

    2
    1
  14. He is simply a first class asshole. Put him in a cell until he’s dead. Only way he will learn. Let him go and someone will be a victim of his ignorance

    2
    2
  15. Take away his license and put a GPS based ankle bracelet on him, which limits his movement to max 45mph on road or something.
