KENOSHA, Wis. – A 31-year-old Kenosha man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he strangled and assaulted a 28-year-old woman following the July 3 fireworks at Paddock Lake.
John R. Martin was charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with felony strangulation and suffocation, misdemeanor battery, and disorderly conduct. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $1,500 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15, 2025.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman told police she and Martin had attended the fireworks separately, then later gathered at her home with another friend and Martin’s brother. The evening allegedly turned violent after an argument in the garage.
The woman told officers that Martin grabbed her by the throat for several seconds, causing pain and fear. She said he later forcibly grabbed her again, walked her behind a shed, and mimicked a punching motion in front of her face while making threatening statements.
Police noted that she had visible injuries consistent with her account and provided surveillance footage capturing parts of the alleged assault. In one clip, Martin is seen grabbing her by the throat. Another video shows him leading her by the back of the neck.
When confronted by police, Martin reportedly claimed the woman had choked him first, describing her as “freaky,” but admitted he didn’t want to be grabbed.
If convicted on all charges, Martin faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the felony count alone.

Tough guy!
Yeah, more like a coward that he has to bully women.
Over and over, when it comes to country music and/or fireworks, nobody even has to ask, “is it them?”.🤣
Crackers gone wild.
How very “tolerant” you are. Go touch grass.
Jason Pierre-Paul and Beyonce would disagree
He needs a beating.
You are way too old, creepy, perverted, and immature to give him a beating.
