KENOSHA, Wis. — Deputy District Attorney Drew Burgoyne announced Thursday that he will leave the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office in late August, ending a 16-year career defined by legal excellence, moral conviction, and deep public service.
In a farewell email to staff earlier today, Burgoyne expressed gratitude for his colleagues and began with a passage from Ecclesiastes 3:1–15: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
“Kenosha County is losing one of its finest legal minds,” said District Attorney Xavier Solis, confirming that Burgoyne has accepted a position elsewhere. “Drew was a steady and dependable presence during my transition into office. He brought experience and an unwavering commitment to justice.”
Solis continued, “His knowledge of the law, professionalism, and dedication have left a lasting mark on this office and this county. While we’re sad to see him go, we’re proud of all he’s accomplished and wish him nothing but continued success in the next chapter of his career.”
Burgoyne joined the DA’s Office in 2009 and was appointed Deputy District Attorney by Solis in late 2024. Since then, he has played a key role in training younger prosecutors, leading major cases, and guiding the office through political change.
Respected by both colleagues and courtroom opponents, Burgoyne has long been admired for his even temperament, strong ethics, and quiet faith. Defense attorney Michael Cicchini, known for his sharp criticism of the justice system, has often cited Burgoyne as an exception.
“He’s ethical, honest, and extremely well-prepared,” Cicchini has said. “If all prosecutors conducted themselves like Drew, there’d be a lot fewer problems in the system.”
Among those who have praised Burgoyne’s service is Richard “Dick” Ginkowski — a former Kenosha County Assistant District Attorney and current municipal judge — who has consistently spoken highly of Burgoyne’s professionalism and integrity.
As the author of this article, I can say without hesitation that Drew Burgoyne is one of the finest prosecutors and most decent people I’ve encountered in my years covering the courthouse and working for defense attorneys. He is a moral man whose strong Christian faith quietly informs his decisions, and he has shown grace, humility, and strength in some of the county’s most sensitive cases.

Drew distinguished himself as an attorney of exceptional ethics, morality, and honesty. He consistently devoted himself to his cases, achieving favorable outcomes through tireless effort. Drew’s commitment to legal ethics and appropriate prosecution was evident in his every action. He developed into a recognized expert, displaying both genuine dedication and tenacity. Accolades for Drew not being influenced by special interest groups or victim witness staff. I wish him the best.

It saddens me to learn that Drew is leaving the District Attorney’s Office.
He is a seasoned and experienced professional with impeccable moral and ethical values. You will never find him gossiping, nor will you ever see him criticizing someone who is not present.
Drew provided invaluable assistance to our new District Attorney when it was most needed, not only helping to rebuild from the ground up, but also working to reverse the damage caused by those who persuaded half of the attorneys to resign rather than work for a Trump-aligned DA.
Thank you for all you have done for our county, Drew. No matter where you go, you will be successful.
