Profanity-Laced Signs Displayed During Harborside/Reuther Walkout as KUSD Staff Look On

KENOSHA, Wis. — A student walkout at Harborside/Reuther Academy on Friday morning drew additional scrutiny after multiple readers sent Kenosha County Eye photographs appearing to show Kenosha Unified School District staff members supervising students holding profanity-laced political signs along Sheridan Road. A factory worker County Eye earlier reported that these were harborside students, but the school issued an email to all parents saying that most of these kids were from Reuther.

The demonstration, which had been anticipated by district officials, began around 9:30 a.m. Several images submitted to KCE show students standing near the curb holding signs that read “Fuck ICE.” At least four separate signs containing that phrase were visible in the photos. Other messages included “No one is illegal on stolen land” and another sign containing a vulgar personal insult about penis size.

In the photos reviewed by KCE, uniformed staff members appear to be standing within close proximity to students as the signs were displayed. Law enforcement officers were also visible in the area monitoring traffic and safety.

One observer who drove past the scene and later spoke with Kenosha County Eye on the condition of anonymity described feeling stunned that students were permitted to display explicit language during school hours in what appeared to be a school-supervised setting. The individual expressed frustration that profanity — language that would not typically be tolerated inside a classroom — was openly displayed in front of staff without apparent intervention. The observer questioned why school officials would allow explicit language on signs during the school day, especially if school supplies were used to create them.

The same individual also expressed concern that some students may have joined the walkout simply to miss class rather than out of a deeply held political belief, and questioned whether the event advanced educational goals .

Another resident who contacted KCE echoed similar sentiments, saying it was difficult to understand how explicit profanity would be permitted in a supervised school environment. That person questioned whether district standards regarding appropriate language during school hours were applied consistently .

A third individual raised a broader concern about viewpoint consistency, asking whether other types of demonstrations — including religious or politically conservative expressions — would receive the same level of accommodation during instructional hours .

Harborside administrators had previously informed families that instruction would continue during the walkout and that students who left class without being excused could be marked tardy or truant. The district also indicated staff supervision would be present, though students leaving campus would not be supervised.

The images now circulating raise a narrower but pointed question: Does the district condone the use of explicit profanity on protest signage during school-supervised events?

Kenosha County Eye has reached out to KUSD seeking clarification on district policy regarding student speech, profanity, and staff oversight during demonstrations.

Julie Blair – Administrative Support/Library – Reuther/Harborside

Julie Blair, administrative support/librarian for both high schools, contacted Kenosha County Eye and wanted the public to know that most of the kids pictured were from Reuther High School.

In a written response Friday afternoon, KUSD Chief Communications Officer Tanya Ruder said student walkouts are not school-sponsored events but are student-organized and voluntary. She said the district’s role is limited to ensuring safety and maintaining normal school operations, noting that administrators communicate with student organizers in advance and notify Kenosha police, who monitor the event. Ruder stated that staff supervise students until they leave school grounds to maintain order, that instruction continues for those who remain in class, and that walkouts are treated as unexcused absences unless parents contact the attendance office. She also said the district has no reason to believe the signage displayed during the walkout was created at or during school hours.

The situation is likely to further fuel debate over the limits of student speech in public schools, particularly when political expression intersects with school supervision and instructional time.

    1. I could care less if students want to protest BEFORE or AFTER SCHOOL!

Our educators should be educating our students IN THE CLASSROOM not standing next to them while they protest during the school day!

Less than 1 out of 3 students in Wisconsin are proficient in reading. Encouraging students to skip school and hold up vulgar signs only makes matters worse.

    2. Says the adult calling kids losers. Makes you a bigger loser than you claim they are. Anyone has a right to protest. So much for Justice for all. Where’s the Justice on tearing families apart?

      1. Congratulations on identifying yourself as also being a loser, or just an idiot. These kids just identified themselves as unemployable

      2. When you commit a CRIME, you go to jail. That’s a choice you made when you committed the crime. THEY are the ones dividing their own families. When they enter the country ILLEGALLY, thats a crime. You get deported, that’s the LAW. They knew that when they committed the crime.

      1. Sounds like a lot of the complaints are libs crying. Due to lack of. Knowledge. About how things work. These kids are expressing freedom of speech learn ur rights ppl. And mabe you will figure it out as well

  1. The communist members of the KEA and KUSD encourage this crap. Do you think children are using their “allowance” to purchase anti ICE flags? All students protesting during school hours should be suspended and removed from any extracurricular activities, also any staff involved should be terminated. Do this crap on your own time and your own dime. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to subsidize this or the illegal aliens these people claim to care for.

      1. I guess if you can’t support your position with valid arguments, name calling is your only recourse. Since you’ve already forgotten, “snowflake” is a maga term to describe people whose feelings and emotions guide their thought process. Try logic for a change and don’t let your hatred of one man or group think guide you.

        28
        9
        1. notice how ppl are saying way worse about kids though? grown ass adults. I know the kids who had their flags, they paid for those with their own money from WORKING. Stop bashing kids for doing what you losers do all the time. Atleast they arent putting stickers on their cars with hateful speech. These are children all of you losers are talking about, but aren’t you trump losers all for protecting kids? Well, you can’t stand by that when your oh mighty president is a sex offender. If all of you guys want to protect kids, start with realizing how fucked your minds are for supporting someone like Trump

          14
          33
          1. Wrong president bucko! It was pedo sniffer Joe that misplaced over 300,000 children, married his babysitter and liked to shower with his daughter.

  2. These kids need to be punished. I’m not bashing how they feel about ICE I’m talking about walking out of school and being 100% disrespectful!!!!

    35
    8
    1. student right btw! students are allowed to do this because they have freedom of speech. Everyone preaches it until kids want to express it. you’re 100% disrespectful!!!

      9
      28
      1. You’re missing the point. It has nothing to do with the protest.
It has everything to do with the time of day, when they should be in class.

        23
        4
      2. Think please! Would student freedom of speech allow for profane signs and truancy if they were protesting against school administrators or policies? Is it acceptable for them to have “F*ck KEA“, “KEA protects pedos” or “KUSD is a groomer factory” signs? Disrespectful behavior is only allowed when it supports the democrat political agenda.

        9
        3
  3. I love the “stolen land” mantra. These kids are so very ignorant of history. They really need more classroom time with real teachers, not soy soaked wokesters.

    45

    1. america was built on imigrants and people who were stolen from thier homes. If you’re not Native american or hispanic YOU are an immigrant.

      9
      25
      1. Haha, the “Americans live on stolen land” mantra? It peaked in the 2010s with every college protest and land-back activist chain, but it’s fizzled into background noise now—mostly trotted out by the same folks pushing endless DEI guilt trips. Under Trump 2.0, it’s buried under “America First” priorities like border walls and energy dominance; nobody’s handing back the Dakotas for a casino expansion.

Truth is, that narrative’s a half-baked myth anyway—European settlers didn’t “steal” empty wilderness; they tamed a savage frontier from warring tribes who’d been at each other’s throats for millennia (think Comanche raids or Iroquois conquests). Manifest Destiny built the greatest nation on earth, turning buffalo plains into breadbaskets. If we’re auditing history for reparations, start with the tribes who sold land treaties fair and square, then got screwed by DC bureaucrats—not some retroactive eviction notice.

    1. There were several cops there when these idiots thought it would be smart to stand in the street holding their profanity ridden signs in front of cars as they passed. Almost had the pleasure of taking one out with my front bumper.

      1. saying this about kids btw, holy shit you are FUCKED. d1 dumbass over here look at this guy! “HAHA i almost hit a kid with my car because they have diffrent beliefs than me!” see how fucking dumb you sound? i thought we were supoosed to be protecting the children?

      9
      1. In these days of “doxxing” and harassment, I’m grateful for an anonymous forum. I don’t want some weirdo vandalizing my property, harassing my family or worse because we don’t agree on a topic. Courage has nothing to do with staying anonymous. Veterans like myself don’t want to be coerced into educating people on the finer points of FA/FO.
Staying anonymous serves us all well and safely gives us a voice, just like when we vote.

        15
        3
        1. yeah but when you’re going to say stupid shit about CHILDREN, you should be proud huh? I’m not gonna choose peace when you people are out here calling children names. If you guys are so worried about being doxxed for your beliefs, don’t say them then. Think about what you people are saying about these children. idiots? losers? really?? fucking crazy. Kids were out here protesting for what they believe in, dont you think they have a chance of being doxxed aswell? Having atleast your first name isnt as bad as having your whole face out there. These kids are loud and proud about what they believe, so should you losers

          5
          10
          1. Looks to me like you are trying to play adult games. So quit the bitching about people calling children , names and whining and crying about what people are calling “children”. Children that should be in school! You simply don’t know enough about this subject to even be protesting about it and all the pictures I see you’re all smiling like it’s some kind of joke.

  4. The real issue is why the government is seemingly pushing all the Epstein stuff under the rug. Shit like that is what people should be protesting.

Doesn’t matter what side you are on……both parties look horribly in all of this. Stop voting for these shitheads, Democrat or Republican.

    12
    5
    1. All the people who are saying punish the students are all lovers. Students have a right to protest, all of you maga shits are all brainwashed smh. Proud of everyone who did this. Freedom of speech until it’s kids wanting to express their views, shame all of you for shaming kids. KIDS btw, these are children. Grown ass adults mad at children, check yourselves this is sad lmao

          1. “This was our choice, you dont know what you’re talkin about.”

You should probably not skip anymore if your classes.

            2
      1. I posted this and am Republican and voted for Trump…..but dude, if you have half a fucking brain you can see how horrible the Epstein situation is.

I don’t trust any of these motherfuckers anymore and you sure as shit shouldn’t, either.

I’m ready for this 4 years to be over at this point.

        3
        7
        1. If you have nothing nice to say just leave the kids alone please.
Also… keep in mind many of them will be voting soon. If you aren’t changed after the ICE shootings then something is a bit off

      2. You are, AGAIN, missing the point. The protest shouldn’t be on the tax payers dime. Get to class and protest on your OWN time.

  5. I don’t agree with what went on today, but I cannot believe that most of the idiots commenting on here can’t read the freakin’ article first! This was not a school event. These kids went rogue and decided that this was the way to spend their day. It’s not the damn teachers and school’s job to babysit these kids while they do their thing. They were marked truant (absent) from class and missed the learning. It is their PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY to deal with them and give them appropriate consequences (if desired). The teachers have enough to do. The district should just worry about the students in their seats who want to learn that day. If the protesters want to be “big boys and girls”, then they can worry about their own safety. However, you know damn well that if one of these students got hit by a car that all the damn comments would be how the school failed. Can’t have it both ways. The schools CANNOT stop students from leaving school. Maybe they can do some learning after school about how using vulgar language just turns people off from listening to you anyways. Our world is so screwed!

    14
    2
    1. Maybe the author should get their facts correct before they make a post as none of these student are Harborside students. They are students of another school. So please facts check before you go writing a story with false information.

  6. To clarify, none of these students pictured are Harborside students. I hope for the sake of accurate reporting this is corrected. It was never a Reuther/ Harborside protest.

      1. Dose? Or Does? Dis? Or this?
Thank God there wasn’t a picture of an analog clock to go with this comment. Just in case you are wondering what that is that’s that big round circle thing that hangs on the wall with the numbers on it 1 through 12 with the big hand and the little hand.

      1. You must be one of the “stellar” graduates of KUSD if you believe that Trump, I.C.E. and the Epstein files are the real issues. Perhaps it is time to get a real education.

        5
        2
        1. i didn’t go to school here, but i still have half a brain to know these kids are trying their best. They’re kids. they can’t protest like adults. This is a time to be together, not to split up. You people are horrible for what you guys are saying about children.

          3
          3
          1. You’re right, we should be bashing the shitty teachers, bad parents and brainwashing social media for corrupting them.

            1. Or maybe not letting people get vouchers for Private Schools so that our a public schools can get more of the funding? Because of the supposedly low birth rate they closed many schools and consolidated them in Kenosha where and where this is the income level is not very high.
Sadly unless you are living in a higher income level area the education system is not as supported with $$$$

              1. I’d rather parents have a choice in NOT having to send their kids to indoctrination centers and government schools. Clearly, these places are not teaching their kids anything but communism.

  7. I’m glad to see people are acknowledging that these are in fact teenagers. But why is nobody concerned with the bigger picture?
These teenagers are protesting during school hours.
If someone decides to peacefully protest, that is fine, they have that right.
KUSD should have done a better job handling this situation. Explaining to their students that while protesting is their right, however, school hours are NOT the time to protest.
Having a KUSD representative “watching” over the protest, looks alot like they are condoning this behavior. Unacceptable that this was not handled much more professionally.

    7
    3
      1. I will bet that they all lived through the riots in Kenosha where we had multiple buildings burned down right in that area by people from Illinois mainly coming here to cause discord in Kenosha.
Many took off work to protest then too!

    1. They were marked truant, they organized this. The teachers were policing not supporting.
Not like it was a field trip
      Leave them alone!
Also… they will be voting soon so you may see the same signs soon 🔜.

          1. Tranny is the label for one of the many mental illnesses tied to Democrats and school shootings. They should add a Jeffrey Dahmer flag- it’s fitting.

  8. As of 2024 reports, Reuther had 5% of their students proficient in math, and 5% proficient in math. There were only 14 schools in the entire state rated worse than this school. There should be no Reuther beginning in fall 2026. In addition, students involved should be suspended and any staff found to help should be fired–obviously they can’t teach anyway.

  9. Just a wonderful upbringing these kids must be getting from their parents. Is there no one around to set a better example? Every one of these kids should face truancy charges

    4
    2
  10. It always amazes me that we live in a time when brainwashed teenagers with zero experience in life can stand outside their school and hold up profanity-laced signs against our government with the faculty standing there. Where did all these ideas come from? Sad day.

    4
    1
    1. not brainwashed, they can form their own opinions on how they see the world. they’re old enough to believe in what they think is right.

      2
      6
    1. because they don’t want ice to hurt their friends and family? i’ve seen legal hispanics get deported. You can’t love America if you don’t love the peole who built it and live here

      2
      6
  11. The hypocrisy is off the charts! Where was this outcry when Obama deported millions of illegal immigrants?? The Democrat cultists are misled to believe that innocent law abiding people are being removed from our country. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Trump administration is prioritizing the removal of harden criminals that have committed heinous acts to society. Shame on KUSD for allowing this performative indoctrination act during school hours, on the tax payer dime!

    1. Nope, we conquered it just like the Indians did from the Aztecs, and before them and before them. We just won 🇺🇸

      2
      1
  12. I see so many comments are from Anonymous. They don’t have the conviction to identify themselves. These kids are using their 1st Ammendment right, and they are right out in the open doing it. Good For Them! They’re out in the real world letting that world know how they feel. They’re scared and they’re angry. They have every right to say so. The KUSD supervisors are not on trial here.
