TWIN LAKES, Wis. — The family of two Twin Lakes sisters critically injured in the devastating May 2 head-on crash on Highway 83 has launched a GoFundMe campaign as medical bills continue to mount and one of the victims remains hospitalized in intensive care fighting for her life.

The fundraiser was organized by the Fikert sisters’ cousin, Kyle Pembroke, and his wife, Ashton Pembroke. According to the family, 22-year-old Chloe Fikert remains in the ICU nearly a week after the violent Wheatland crash, while her 24-year-old sister Olivia Fikert has undergone major back surgery and now faces a long and painful recovery.

The fundraiser states Olivia Fikert received 29 staples, metal screws, and plates during surgery and now must wear a back brace anytime she is not lying down. Family members say both women face extensive rehabilitation and ongoing medical treatment in the months ahead.

“In a matter of seconds, their world — and our family’s world — was turned upside down,” Kyle Pembroke wrote in the fundraiser description.

As previously reported by Kenosha County Eye, the crash occurred around 10:06 a.m. on May 2 in the 5700 block of Highway 83 in Wheatland. Authorities allege a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck the sisters’ southbound Hyundai head-on.

The crash scene quickly became catastrophic.

Dispatch audio described one vehicle as “on fire right in the middle of the street,” while deputies warned the vehicle was “about to blow” as flames intensified and tires began popping.

Authorities said two victims were flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, while another victim was transported by ambulance to Aurora Medical Center. One of the sisters remained trapped inside the wreckage for approximately 57 minutes while firefighters worked frantically to free her.

Before emergency crews arrived, Bristol resident Tom Nevala rushed toward the burning wreckage and pulled a young woman from one of the destroyed vehicles moments before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Nevala later told Kenosha County Eye the woman told him her legs were burning before he dragged her from the vehicle.

The fundraiser says the family now faces overwhelming financial burdens from ICU care, surgeries, emergency transport, rehabilitation, lost work, and ongoing medical treatment.

According to the organizers, the driver accused of causing the crash allegedly did not have insurance, and Chloe Fikert reportedly does not have health insurance coverage.

The fundraiser estimates total medical expenses for the sisters could eventually exceed hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“Anyone who knows Chloe and Olivia knows how loving, strong, and caring they are,” Pembroke wrote. “They have always been there for others, and now they need all of us to be there for them.”

The GoFundMe page asks for donations, prayers, and shares as the sisters continue their recovery.
