Man Sets Himself on Fire at Kenosha Speedway, Suffers Severe Burns

KENOSHA, Wis. — A man suffered severe burns Thursday after allegedly dousing himself with gasoline, setting himself on fire, and running into a Speedway gas station near Washington Road and 30th Avenue, according to information gathered by Kenosha County Eye.

Multiple sources tell Kenosha County Eye that the man intentionally poured gasoline on himself before igniting the fuel. After catching fire, he reportedly ran into the Speedway convenience store, where employees quickly sprang into action.

According to information obtained by Kenosha County Eye, several Speedway employees used fire extinguishers to put out the flames, likely preventing the man’s injuries from becoming even more catastrophic.

A large emergency response from the Kenosha Police Department and Kenosha Fire Department followed. Scanner traffic reviewed by Kenosha County Eye confirmed a significant incident in the area, including references to flames, advanced medical care, and discussions regarding a possible helicopter landing zone for a critically injured patient.

The man was ultimately transported for specialized treatment. Sources familiar with the incident tell Kenosha County Eye that he was either flown or transported to a regional burn center. While his injuries are believed to be serious and extensive, sources indicate he is expected to survive.

However, those familiar with his condition say he will likely suffer permanent burn injuries over much of his body.

The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity or provided an official statement regarding the incident.
