KENOSHA, Wis. — Residents across Kenosha County will have six opportunities to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, with neighborhood events designed to strengthen community relationships and promote crime prevention through community engagement.
Kenosha County Gang Prevention will host its annual National Night Out event from 5 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot outside the county’s new Human Services Building, located at 3500 52nd St. The building is expected to open soon.
Other National Night Out events scheduled throughout the county include:
- Lincoln Park, 6900 18th Ave. (City of Kenosha)
- Shalom Center, 4314 39th Ave.
- Prairie Springs Park ballfield pavilion, 9900 Terwall Terrace (Pleasant Prairie Police Department)
- First United Methodist Church, 919 60th St.
- St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8760 37th Ave.
National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August and takes place in more than 15,000 communities across all 50 states. The nationwide initiative is intended to build neighborhood camaraderie while fostering positive relationships between residents and law enforcement through community policing efforts.
“Our theme again this year is, ‘Knowing your neighbors IS gang prevention,'” County Executive Samantha Kerkman said in a news release. “We strive to strengthen neighborhoods against gang and youth violence by bringing neighbors together.”
The county-sponsored event will feature games and activities for children and families, prize drawings, free hot dogs, chips and water, resource tables staffed by community organizations, and activities hosted by members of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office. Organizers said similar activities will be offered at the other National Night Out locations throughout the county.
“We encourage people to join their neighbors for an evening of community, connection, resources, and fun,” said Glenn Larson, Gang Intervention/Youth Justice Supervisor with the Kenosha County Division of Children and Family Services.
