In April of 2016, a Racine man filed a lawsuit against Hyundai Motors Company after being seriously injured in a car accident. The Jury awarded the man close to $33,000,000. Hyundai Motors Company now wants to appeal this decision. One of the first steps? Order the transcripts from of the Circuit Court pleadings from the court reporter. In Wisconsin, court reporters, (or stenographers), make side money producing these transcripts. According to court records, Racine resident Brande Browne, 44 was the court reporter for the trial. The trial, concluding on 2/12/2020 was 17 days long. A local legal professional who spoke with the Kenosha County Eye estimated the cost for the transcripts to be around $20,000 – $30,000 or more depending on many circumstances. Browne missed many deadlines to produce the documents and was finally sanctioned by the court of appeals and ordered to pay a $1,075 penalty. According to a source, Browne skipped town after being pre-paid for the transcripts. The Judge, Branch two’s Eugene Gasiorkiewicz signed a warrant for Browne on 12/10/2020. Brande Browne also has a pending criminal case for Ignition Interlock Device Tampering/Failure to Install/Violate Court Order and Operating While Revoked (Rev due to alcohol/controlled substance/refusal). She also has a DWI/refusal conviction. She is due in court on 3/1/2021. If she misses this date, she is likely to have two warrants. This is not Browne’s first time being very late with her work. She faced a similar situation in 2014.
