  1. The investigation must proceed as it must but I’m a bit disappointed that our new sheriff was not more out in front and transparent. This is all information that could have been disclosed last night. The business of law enforcement cherry picking when and what information will be released does not enhance trust. For example, why was there a vehicle being pursued? Who is the deceased suspect (general information if identity needs to be withheld, i.e., a 32-year-old Racine man)? What hospital? What does “drop a firearm in the individual’s possession” mean? Was the suspect holding it or aiming and pointing it?

Maybe some of those questions couldn’t be answered and shouldn’t be at this time but this deserved better transparency. Truth requires no memorization.

    1. It would be improper for the Kenosha Sheriff’s Office to comment. This information I learned independently. The Michael Bell law suggests that the departments should refer the media to the DOJ DCI for comment. The Sheriff’s Department wishes to not comment so an impartial investigation can be completed without influence from the involved agencies.

      1. The original poster has a point. They may not be able to say everything but they should say something. People will think they’re hiding if they don’t.

  2. From paragraph 2 of Wisconsin DOJ’s press release –

“First aid was rendered at the scene and the subject was transported to a local hospital where they later died.”

In normal use, “they” is plural. Who else died?
I suppose this is an attempt to not misgender the deceased.
Makes for ridiculous mental gymnastics where every word needs to be parsed for new made up meanings.

    I don’t expect better from Kaul’s office.

    1. It is perfectly acceptable to use “they” in singular form, such as in the above context used. This shouldn’t require “mental gymnastics” to figure out. People are nuts. Always trying to find the smallest and dumbest thing to make some unrelated political point. Relax people!

  3. Cut the rookie sheriff a little slack here but he should know better. And hopefully from constructive criticism he’ll learn.
