Flag Protest Sparks Vandalism Probe in Kenosha Neighborhood — But No Charges Filed

Kenosha, Wis. — A neighborhood quarrel over a politically inverted American flag spiraled into a month-long police investigation in the St. Peter’s Park neighborhood — and ended with no arrests, no charges, and rising tensions between residents.

The dispute began early on March 1, when a couple living on 22nd Street, just behind St. Peter’s Catholic Church on 30th Avenue, called police to report that both of their vehicles had been vandalized. Windshield wipers were bent and air valves on the tires had been pinched. A typed, anonymous letter was left under one wiper.

“So you were warned about disrespecting the flag,” it read. “This is the first of several retaliations… you hate America and support communism… move to California!” The notes contained spelling errors. The couple provided a second letter they had received weeks earlier, also anonymous and unsigned, which warned that unless they corrected or removed the upside-down American flag displayed in front of their home, “we will take action on you home and vehicles.”

Police responded and documented minor vehicle damage, but the incident quickly escalated into a wider investigation that would span weeks, hours of detective work, multiple search canvasses, and surveillance video analysis.

A masked figure had been caught on camera walking past the couple’s house at approximately 6:16 a.m. that morning, holding a white object. No actual vandalism was visible in the footage — and the person’s identity remained concealed. That didn’t stop the couple from launching a highly personal campaign to identify and expose who they believed was responsible.

Initially, they pointed to one neighbor. Then they changed course and accused another — a man who lived near the entrance to the subdivision. When reached through a mutual acquaintance, the man reportedly expressed confusion and offered to speak with the couple directly. But the couple said they were out of town and refused to meet, even the following day.

Instead, they took their accusations to social media. One post, later shown to police, featured the man’s photo with his eyes blacked out and the caption “Do The Right Thing.” Other posts referenced guilt, sin, and Catholic repentance. Police later said the couple admitted they posted these messages intentionally to provoke a response.

The following week, things escalated even further. According to police reports and witness statements, the couple began blasting vulgar music from their house — specifically a song containing the phrase “F— You” — whenever the accused man’s wife, daughter, or niece walked past.

Then came the yard signs. By mid-March, the couple had erected giant signs in their front yard, including blown-up images of the anonymous letters and surveillance stills showing the masked individual. One sign reportedly featured a large printed photo of the accused neighbor.

Anonymous Letter To Trump Supporter
(Kenosha Police Department)

During the canvass, one resident shared that her family had received a similar anonymous letter in the weeks following the 2024 presidential election. In that case, the woman had left pro-Trump signs in her yard while out of town. When she returned, she found a letter in her mailbox — not delivered by USPS — criticizing her for “poor sportsmanship” and suggesting she was disrespecting neighbors who “may have voted differently.” A photo of the letter was shown to police.

Detectives worked the case for nearly three weeks, collecting footage from multiple homes, canvassing door-to-door, and interviewing neighbors who described the couple’s actions as obsessive. One resident, who had initially tried to help, said she was later blocked on social media. Another said the neighborhood had grown tense and polarized. Even the U.S. Postal Inspection Service got involved after the couple contacted them about the anonymous mail.

Eventually, the case was forwarded to the Kenosha City Attorney’s Office. After reviewing the evidence, Assistant City Attorney Brian Coe declined to file municipal charges, writing that the video evidence failed to link the masked individual definitively to the act of vandalism. The damage itself was not recorded, and no witness saw it happen. The detective investigating the case noted in a report that the woman became “spiteful and malicious” after learning the case wouldn’t be prosecuted.

“Without a clearer link between the vandalism incident itself and the masked individual,” Coe wrote, “the City would not prevail on a vandalism charge.”

Investigators advised the couple that they could file in small claims court if they wished to recover the estimated $300–$600 in damages. Police officially closed the case on March 20.

  1. So what you’re saying is, the libs with the upside down flag vandalized themselves? Sounds about right.

          1. If you have video proof that clearly shows who the person is who did it, then why didn’t the DA prosecute them? Because it sounds like you and them both cannot say for certain who it really was. You yourself said it was one neighbor at first and then said it was a different one further down the street. Stop assuming shit from your emotion driven thoughts. You have the right to put up whatever sign you want in your front yard and no one should be going on your property to destroy it or anything else. That doesn’t give you the right to do all the rest of the stuff you have been doing. You are essentially acting no better than the person who did this to you.

  2. None of these people involved are anywhere near as important or rich enough for it to matter who the President is or isn’t. I find it funny when people bicker over this stuff knowing that….

  3. There was video of them committing the crime. I can send it if you’d like. The detective was given this, why it got lost that’s anybody’s guess. This is America and Republicans love the first amendment right Kevin? If one should choose to hang a flag upside down, like say, Supreme Court Justice Alito did and are peacefully exercising their right to free speech then they should be able to correct? That does not give anyone the right to come onto someone’s property and damage it EVER! There was clear video of who did it and the open records video of that person being interviewed solidified it for us. Look at the still shot, it’s impossible to deny. If you’d like to try to paint me as crazy go ahead if that makes you feel better. It was good that he got embarrassed after what he did. And the other person was unfriended on FB not blocked Dan Rather. ✌️

      1. Feel free to come knock my teeth out. Thank you for fighting for the first Amendment that you don’t believe in.

      2. Hey combat veteran, this is what you ” “fought” for. Free speech means ALL SPEECH, douchebag. So sit your old ass down and finish your oatmeal.

        17
        17
      3. Oh yea. We are still suppose to respect you despite the fact that the toddler in chief considers you a sucker and a loser.

        1. You invited this, go seek sympathy elsewhere. Go on a hunger strike the next time you want to protest and leave the flag alone.

          1. I happen to respect veterans, especially those who served in combat. I am merely repeating what our Dear Leader President said about combat veterans.

He said they are suckers and losers. Am I supposed to believe him or not?

              1. The source is one of Trump’s trusted advisers. You just can’t handle the truth that Trump believes you, and all other brave veterans, are suckers and losers.

I don’t believe that. What I believe is that you are a pussy for supporting such a person who does not respect you.

                1
                12
              1. Sorry, it is true. No amount of denial or wishful thinking will change the fact that the Coward in Chief Trump believes that veterans are suckers and losers. Those of you in the military who lick his boots are proving he is correct. It is hard to admit, but military Trump supporters are pussies. Why would these big brave men and women follow a man who disrespects them so openly?

      4. How about the combat veterans that fly the flag upside down? I personally wouldn’t do it. But they are allowed to. I wish it were addressed more quickly. The wheels of justice are slow, but they do move. I tend to lean left, but i don’t support lefties keying or vandalizing Tesla’s either. Personal property is personal property. And home cameras help somewhat but rarely lead to an arrest. It sucks. I wish everyone would just get together and have a block party.

    1. we also have to deal with the consequences of our actions, good or bad. You made a choice that people didnt like and now your dealing with the consequences of your action to hang an American flag upside down. Its the same as Dems destroying republican yard signs. The people who put them in the yard knew that they could be vandalized. I bet you didnt advocate for those people did you??

      6
      2
      1. You do know that the flag upside down is a simbol of the nation in distress it has nothing to do with disrespect at all our country is in fact distressed. Our dollar is failing our government has lost its damn mind and our people are so divided it’s pitiful

  4. Also, after watching all the body cam footage it’s undeniable to us that the detective failed miserably.

    4

  5. If you have trump signs in your yard for years, then you shouldn’t judge anyone else’s political displays either.

    8
    6
    1. I don’t think it’s the signs necessarily, it’s your crazy ass reaction and falsification of crimes.

      10
      1
  6. Both sides have been doing this shit for years. If you are putting your flag upside down because you disagree with someone, you are an idiot. It dishonors many for selfish reasons. Both sides lie. If you honestly believe your side doesn’t, you’re in denial.

    15
    3
  7. A American Flag flown upside down is universally recognized as a symbol of distress.
It doesn’t have bias to one political party or another.

Heck I once saw it in a western movie. The owner of a ranch was flying the flag upside down and was sending a signal or sign to people outside of his home that he was in distress inside. He was using it because the good guys coming were Americans and knew what it meant and the bad guys in the movie were Spanish and had no knowledge of the upside down meaning of the American Flag.

Regardless of which side of the fence you’re on I think we can agree that the message of distress is real. It’s how we resolve this distress that decides if we are worthy of the protections of the flag and what it stands for.

    16

  8. It’s just odd that people feel compelled to hang upside down flags. I could care less either way but you know it’s just inviting attention on purpose and when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes these days.

    9
    2
  9. Wow…..such immaturity on both sides. And really, if you live in America, the flag should be respected. Just saying

    17
    1
  10. First Amendment or not, if you are anti-American, you can just leave the country!
And additionally you are no different than all those radical Muslims that preached during October 7th in this country at the universities. Maybe you should be ousted too! Like your country or not, deal with it, and don’t disrespect the flag!

    9
    3
  11. We have real issues in the world and this is so embarrassing…Ken’s and Karen’s have the pettiest of problems and can’t deal but have the audacity to point out others 🤣🤣🤣 you guys are so entertaining

  12. It’s a well known phrase.

We need to understand that the next election is not four years but less than two years away. It’s called Midterms. This is both sides opportunity to either solidify or change the direction of our country.
If it goes one way, we have two more years of change and a run up to continuing change.
If it goes the other way, we have two years of struggle to get anything done, either way.

While we do have our differences and strong opinions, I think we can agree which side the violence and destruction comes from.
    And that needs to stop

    5

  13. These are the type of people who change their FB photo to the Palestinian like “im helping” They are unhinged. What did you think peoples reaction would be seeing an obvious sign of disrespect to our flag. Idiots!!

    9
    1
    1. Exactly! Unfortunately it was only a few broken items of little value. Next time hopefully someone will do some serious damage to her house.

Like a chick walking around in shorts that have her ass checks hanging out and a see through top with no bra that cries cause men are whistling at her.

  14. If libs want to hang their flags upside down because we finally have a President with America First policies,
let them. That way you know who to stay the hell away from, who not to do business with, who not to trust.
Let them show who they really are.

  16. Next election, I will vote for the candidate that passes legislation to stop text messages being used as a means of communicating about candidates.

  17. No one has mentioned Amy launching tennis balls at the INNOCENT family members when they are walking by. One who is a minor mind you. And her video evidence has been seen by the entire neighborhood who is laughing at them as there it shows NOTHING. The two people are NOT the same person despite the Costco jacket worn by them as well as 300 other people in Kenosha. Body type is totally different and they do not walk the same. HENCE why no charges have been filed. The police are not in cahoots. They would have absolutely taken action if there was evidence of a crime. I’ve never thought of the theory that they made this all up but you are onto something people. Thanks for that insight. However, IF someone did damage their vehicles I 100% do not condone that, but I also don’t condone when someone set their sights onto the WRONG person and then obsesses over it. You want to talk about how “nice” the retired firefighter who hangs his flag upside down is, well the person you are accusing is TRULY the nicest person and would never harm a fly. That is the mind blowing part. You are laser focused on someone that would never damage anyone’s property. Ever. And again, IF this happened I do hope all this attention on the matter will prevent anything further as no one has the right to damage anyone’s property just like no one has the right to harass and attempt to HARM a group of women walking with a child in their neighborhood. Get some great security cameras of your own and move on.

    13

  18. The flag symbolizes the first and all other constitutional amendments. Why do some people begin to disrespect it every time they lose an election? Feel free to head to the civic center and express yourself with the rainbow warriors; you have four more years for that, but please leave the flag alone.

    1
    1
  19. Liberalism is a mental disorder…

I feel bad for Amy’s kids, what an embarrassment she is to herself and her family. Really sad to see – her kids don’t stand a chance in this world with a bipolar, psychotic, unstable parent like that.

Amy stop poisoning our community with your filth – Boulder, Seattle, Portland are calling you name – GO!
