According to the criminal complaint, the assault happened on August 29, 2023. Newman is alleged to have raped a woman and the details are so gruesome, that KCE will not be sharing them here. The victim sought medical treatment on September 6, 2023, and had a sexual assault evaluation done. Evidence was found to be consistent with forcible rape. Multiple Carthage students spoke to KCE on the condition of anonymity. KCE did confirm their statuses as students.

It would be almost three months until Newman would be arrested from the heinous allegations. KCE can’t say Friday afternoon if the Police waited to refer charges to the DA’s office, or if the DA’s office took a longer-than-normal time to charge Newman. According to multiple sources, Chancellor John Swallow (D), who makes almost $700,000 and Athletic Director Ryan Kane, allowed Newman to continue to play football after the allegations were first made. It seems, the football games trumped the safety of the students. Even against pressure from the woke chancellor, more than a dozen brave women protested for justice.

The students held signs front of the campus and at football games. They didn’t use Newman’s name on their signs, however. Swallow told them that they couldn’t put his name on their signs – “it would be defamation”. One sign read “Coaches Know But Let Him Play” and “President Swallow Where Are You?” among others.

One of the women who helped organize the protest runs an advocacy group on social media. She told KCE:

“There is a long, drawn out Title Nine process that takes place at Carthage to look at the allegations against the perpetrator. Meanwhile, [Newman] gets to participate in his sport, go to classes, attend parties- all while actively pursuing women who have no idea what he’s done or is capable of doing.  The only reason I knew about the assault was because [the victim] was a member of my [redacted]. Without that, I would not have been aware of him and what he’s capable of. We have had other girls on campus come up to us as we protest or in class to say that [Newman] harassed / assaulted them as well during the process before he could be arrested.  Thankfully he was finally arrested December 1st and we were finally able to say and post his name!”

Neither Swallow nor Kane responded to KCE’s multiple attempts to communicate. Newman is holding on a $30,000 cash bail. He is due back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.

    1. It’s also time people stop judging others like they are perfect or God himself. It’s time people stop lying. It’s time for a lot of things.

Just like I wrote a letter to the editor proven guilt in his innocent and to proving guilty that’s not the first time that little girl has been in those dorm rooms why was she there at 4:30 in the morning she wanted to be around them up under him cuz he’s a football player he didn’t want her just so happy he’s bigger than she expected so now she’s crying right his voice will be heard a $40,000 Bond are you kidding me this is freedom of speech with you everyone has that is not in his character ranson University College or whatever you want to call it should be arrested for attempted murder attempted murder of a young black man’s dream he didn’t want her so she got mad she told the judge to tell him he can’t drink or talk to other girls what kind of mess is that it won’t even say her name. I don’t know if you for or against but I’m letting you know what I am and I’m angry he will be heard that’s not the first time she’s been there when he got back he didn’t want her so she finally goes to the doctor months later after she probably been with someone else give me a break but he will be heard

    3. I am sure the little girl that’s that is accusing my grandson of such a behavior is reading every one of these posts so little girl I want you to know I am his grandmother and I know my grandson and you know he didn’t rape you but since you guys are making them guilty before he’s proven I’m going to spread your name all over the world it won’t be slander and it won’t be harassment it’s freedom of speech I’m protecting my own you. You know he did not rape you y’all have been in a relationship and he didn’t want you anymore that’s why you ask the judge to say he can’t drink and talk to other girls little girl your name is going to be all over everywhere I’ll put it in Russia Canada Africa about the little girl that tried to kill my grandson’s dream so you take those little homily looking girls and y’all pick up your little science and you need to tell the truth cuz I’m going to put your name everybody going to be talking about you you know I don’t make sense you wait damn near a month. So if he’s guilty before proven innocent so are you. I want to talk with. And it’s hard to believe that your parents and they know who you are they know what you are but they will destroy someone else’s dream because of your actions s*** those people going to come and testify for you and that your friends and they standing there watching them are not your friend sweetie

I will put ranson University on the map. This is freedom of speech if this is taken out of this post you have to handle that one too cuz he will not stand alone she waste a whole month or so to have to Thanksgiving then go to a doctor and this happened in September because he didn’t want her I should have taught him better on his grandmother since you want to know. Ranson University should be charged with attempted murder of a black man’s dream and she is liable since you’re putting Jill and before his charge and the judge oh man I hold that one for a minute but it is still freedom of speech

    1. Because he is a damn good football player this guy he has a name Cortez Lee Newman he’s a very sensitive guy he didn’t rape her she wanted him he didn’t want her that’s why he told her to almost 2 months to go to a doctor and she’s going from doing room come on give me a break freedom of speech I and he will be heard this is taking off the page I’ll deal with that too he’s a damn good football player you must haven’t seen him. play. But you guys praise the black man the next your town and kind and your county and your schools look good you’re praising men but when a little white girls messing around with him he don’t want her I’ll be down huh freedom or speech he will be heard I’ve seen your police I think I’ve seen two shiny black people

      1. If you haven’t heard of black Bernie Mac I’m sure you have I’m like him I say things people are scared to say or afraid to say I’m not afraid he will Cortez Lee Newman be heard attempted murder of a black man’s dream that is that’s true

  3. Before people pass judgement maybe they should know all the facts and know EXACTLY what happened. Try to consider how would you feel if you were being accused of a crime that you did not commit. Two sided to every story. Just waiting for the evidence.

    1. I applaud you I don’t know if you Caucasian or a black person of proud African American but I like that in you he’s been charged a $30,040,000 bond no no property Vine 40 years in prison doing something with the girl that he probably been doing ever since he’s been doing that at that college he didn’t want her no more he will be heard Cortez Lee Newman has been raised around women he knows anymore he knows that feelings he know I struggle freedom is speech freedom of speech and then he didn’t do it that’s why she waited two three months what you want your doctor after she not been in the other dorms come on I’m going to put it out there that girl probably been having sex I can’t say when Cortez have cuz we never got that far that’s my grandson and I’m not saying it because that’s my grandson I’m saying it because she wait months then she going to do that cuz he didn’t want her he’s a black man what you expect she probably done more than that and freedom of speech I can say this now I tell the people to judge that without a trial

      10

I am on Facebook n i k i t r a .h a l l i need someone that’s not afraid because I wanted to do a friendly protest I talked to whoever that man was he said I can do it because it’s a private school you have to be a student we need help they want us to clown they want us to act up so they can give us another 40 years in prison with shackles and chains

    1. Absolutely… But then again. In the world we live in It’s Guilty until proven Innocent…. Innocent people go to prison everyday. Sadly.

  4. For those who are sticking up for this criminal you are going to feel really stupid when multiple witnesses come forward to testify how he raped this student and abused other students while on campus. Why do you think there was protests by many students it wasn’t a one time thing! Carthage is liable for any assaults after the first one since they did nothing to stop him from preying on others. Carthage kicks students out of the school for property damage! I guess you can damage people and get away with it there!

    1. If you are not a witness and if you were not there it doesn’t matter what people say. People lie all the time and are jealous of people so they make stuff up. Personally I have been a witness to a whore who was upset a man didn’t want her at college and her and many of her friends lied on him… And when they were sued the real truth came to the surface.. since no one is God no one can judge anyone. Facts will forever be important no matter what people say. He wasn’t even at the school that long and who believes someone works hard to make it somewhere then just blows it on a girl who has a reputation of giving people sexual transmitted diseases. But like always. We will let the facts show and the story unfold. Then react. Hurt people Hurt people. This young man never hurt anyone. As some witnesses said as well. So basically who knows

      1
      9
    2. Do you know him personally. Do he have a record. Do he have a pattern of this. Do you know his history. Do you know anything about him to just call him a criminal. People so quick to point the finger. Regardless of the allegations… What if it was your brother. Father. Cousin. Friend. Whoever. Someone you know being accused of something out of their character. Let’s be fair. IF …big if. She was RAPED. Where were the adults. Other students. Roommate. Anyone. No one heard screams. No one seen him leaving. No one knows anything. Be realistic

      3
      3
    3. You say multiple witnesses and no one stopped a rape but they witnessed it doesn’t that make them guilty also stupidity just stupid. He didn’t want to know more she weigh it too much I should have been laying over other people she told us to say he can’t drink no more he can’t talk to girls that’s true jealousy cuz he didn’t want her you need to keep my legs closed you can’t just I should have I should have told her but I should have wished it in his ear just say no

    5. Because he is a damn good football player this guy he has a name Cortez Lee Newman he’s a very sensitive guy he didn’t rape her she wanted him he didn’t want her that’s why he told her to almost 2 months to go to a doctor and she’s going from doing room come on give me a break freedom of speech I and he will be heard this is taking off the page I’ll deal with that too he’s a damn good football player you must haven’t seen him. play. You sound like a fool how could you sit there I’m assuming you are a grown ass person talking about so I guess witnesses sit there and watch her get rape is that what you trying to tell me you know all these people but they won’t put the little girls name out there because the parents want to protect her but she’s roaming the dorms at 4.am in the morning for $30/ $40.

  5. I don’t know if this person is guilty or innocent. My first thought is why did the young woman wait 19 days to go to the hospital and report this? I kmow prople will say the trauma is overwhelming and I can only imagine how awful it must be. Having said that, waiting to report only helps the perp and harms the victims case, not to mention leaving the perp out there to possibly do this to other unsuspecting women. I can see a day or 3 to gather the strength to face the continuing nightmare of reliving the assualt and submitting to the physical examonation but 19 days seems strange. I’m sorry, I don’t get it.

    1. Exactly. It’s a lot of things from what I have learned about it that doesn’t add up. Like the fact that the girl and the allegedly offender was involved with each on multiple accounts sexual. Let’s see what happens.

    2. She waited because she wanted to be with him she thought when he came back from Thanksgiving break he’s going to be with her he didn’t want her she’s giving herself away multiple witnesses said that some people said cuz she’s on my way and she was getting a little couple dollars that could be true too because who ain’t never sold a little creature but she wanted to be with him and when he got back he didn’t want her no more she waited until he got back and told her no why would she tell the judge to say he can’t drink and go to parties and talk to other girls come on now George because someone tell me that judge’s name please still remember everybody’s saying he’s guilty

  6. If Carthage wants to clean up the mess they need to get rid of Swallow and his top idiots they are ruining the school and if they wants to really clean up the mess get new Board members because they cant can do the job of protecting students !! Funny how the story about the dead student found behind school was always changing? MONEY TALKS

    1. Exactly. It’s a lot of things from what I have learned about it that doesn’t add up. Like the fact that the girl and the allegedly offender was involved with each on multiple accounts sexual. Let’s see what happens.

  7. My guess is the police completed reports, interviews, and collected any evidence. Then sent the report and recommendation of charges to the DA’s office immediately. The DA’s office is the entity that “Files charges”, not the police department. They could be waiting for DNA or something from the crime lab, however that would have no bearing on whether there was consent or not. I just wonder if the alleged rapist will get a refund on the payments he made towards his books, housing, food, and tuition thus far…

    1. Or it could all just be another man of color being targeted. Or it could be just another girl lying on a guy she liked that didn’t like her back. Who knows. But I definitely know many many many many many innocent people who are accused charged and imprisoned because of lies. Jealousy. Race. All the above. Can’t wait to see outcome.

    2. But you got to think about this too if she’s roaming through the dorms at 4:00 in the morning and things like that and she got witnesses are they female or they mean did they get a little bit too and she didn’t get paid I don’t know yes that’s kind of funny but whole month almost went by what is he got back to that school and he didn’t want to deal with her no more because she I was going to call her a hoe but I’m not going to do that. She just wanted what she couldn’t have

  8. Some questions need to be addressed. Why the delay between the assault and the report to the police? Did the victim get a sexual assault exam within 96 hours of the event? What physical evidence is there? DNA, photos, medical records, phone records, CCTV? Who witnessed this particular event? Answering these questions only starts the investigation. Delayed reporting is something law enforcement deals with and understands but HATES. They want a smoking gun.
As for the time between the police report and DA charge the answer could be many things. They may have waited for more evidence to charge. What people don’t realize is that once an arrest is made the clock begins…. Better to line up the ducks first and get it right!
As for Carthage…they are KNOWN to shift blame, make serious events look innocent and even force students to leave, or to pay them off.

  9. It can be it doesn’t matter because I’m standing up for that young black man right there and it’s not only because he’s black it’s because of who she is and her parents is willing to her damage another man’s a person’s a young guy not cuz he’s black maybe they’re prejudice to destroy his dream to protect their daughter that’s running around the door in the morning guys. So this is a lot about that character also freedom of speech I do have thank you

  10. And if you notice the pictures on the protest all the girls look very homely and they need somebody and so that person don’t want them once they give up the goods they really messed up aren’t they looking at homely no type of s******* about themselves anyway femininity

  12. Funny how ya’ll want to say he should be innocent until proven guilty, but feel its okay to throw shade at her her. She didn’t wait months to report it. Kenosha county took months to fully action the allegations/reports made. Pretty sure if it was your daughter, sister, granddaughter, friend, classmate your views would be different. The bar is extremely high for a warrant to be granted/issued and it was. Proof is in the paperwork. Yes, everyone deserves their day in court. 63% of SA are never reported due to retaliation, of those who actually reported less than 2% are false accusations.
