Hoping For The Best But Preparing For the Worst, Village of Salem Lakes Announces Plan For Potential Flooding

Salem Lakes Village Administrator Cassandra Hiller is hoping that the possible flooding that is being forecasted doesn’t happen. She isn’t, however, leaving anything to chance.

Cassandra – Village Administrator, Village of Salem Lakes

Today, Hiller announced that Village staff are currently working with Kenosha County to make sand and sandbags available at the Wilmot Pit and in Silver Lake at the Fire Station.  “Kenosha County is loading sand now and has sand and unfilled bags ready to go,” said Hiller Tuesday Afternoon. Residents will need to bring their own shovels and load the bags themselves.

The Fox River near New Munster is currently under a flood warning and is expected to crest on Thursday at potentially a major flood stage.

From Accuweather:

At 13.8 feet, Floodwaters are into the lower levels of some homes in the Town of Wheatland and Village of Salem Lakes areas along Riverside Drive and Shorewood Drive.

As for flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 13.7 feet on 06/15/1999. Click here for some helpful information.

Yes. I enjoy water too. I lived on L. Michigan. The real deal. I Loved it.
Yet my home was never at risk of being washed away.

    1. Some people can’t afford to move from this location.. so cool you can afford to live on the lake- some can’t!

  2. It’ll get worse in a matter of time when Kenosha Co decides to do the BS wetland mitigation buffoonery like it’s hero Lake Co.
