KENOSHA, Wis. – A 19-year-old Kenosha man accused of luring an 11-year-old boy to a home and robbing him at gunpoint appeared in court Thursday, still without a lawyer more than seven months after being charged.
Amirryis K. Gaston was charged on October 17, 2024, with armed robbery with threat of force, false imprisonment, obstructing an officer, and possession of THC. If convicted on all charges, Gaston faces up to 46 years and 3 months in prison and $121,000 in fines.
Kenosha County Court Commissioner William Michel II set Gaston’s cash bond at $20,000 at his initial appearance. He remains in the Kenosha County Jail. Despite multiple hearings, Gaston has not been appointed a public defender, a delay caused by an ongoing statewide shortage of lawyers willing to take public defense cases. His next court date is scheduled for June 24 to determine whether counsel has been secured.
According to the criminal complaint, on October 11, 2024, Gaston and another suspect allegedly used a teenage girl to lure an 11-year-old boy to a residence near 17th Avenue and 53rd Street under the pretense of a social gathering. When the child entered the home, he was led into a bedroom. Moments later, two masked men—one identified by the victim as “Reese,” later confirmed to be Gaston—burst into the room, brandishing firearms.
One suspect pressed a handgun to the boy’s head and said, “Don’t move. I’ll blow your head off,” while the girl reportedly yelled, “Kill him! Kill him!” As the child attempted to escape, the suspects pushed him onto a bed and took his iPhone and charger from his sweatshirt.
The boy eventually fled the home and called police from a nearby residence. Officers later identified Gaston through social media, witness interviews, and a photo lineup. A teenage girl who had invited the boy over later admitted to setting him up at the request of Gaston and another male. She told investigators the motive was retaliation because the boy’s older brother had allegedly robbed them in the past.
Investigators recovered videos from the girl’s phone recorded during the robbery, including audio of a gun slide racking and footage of the child fleeing the home. In one clip, the girl could be heard laughing while filming the victim’s stolen belongings.
Gaston was arrested during a traffic stop on October 16. He initially gave officers a false name and later admitted to concealing marijuana in his underwear. He was identified on the scene by a passenger in the vehicle.
The case will remain in limbo until Gaston is appointed legal representation. His next hearing is set for June 24.
