PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – A 39-year-old Antioch man is accused of stealing nearly $5,000 from his employer at a Bristol gas station and using the money to buy lottery tickets while on the job.
Adam J. Frey was charged Tuesday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with one felony count of theft in a business setting for allegedly manipulating more than 100 customer transactions between May 1 and May 21. According to the criminal complaint, Frey would scan items for customers at the BP Gas Station on 93rd Street, accept their cash payments, then void one or more items before finalizing the transaction—pocketing the cash value of the voided items.

BP management told authorities the scheme cost the company $2,438.67 in cash losses and an additional $2,438.67 in losses from lottery ticket purchases Frey allegedly made using the stolen funds, bringing the total reported loss to $4,877.34.
The complaint states Frey admitted to deputies that he had taken the money and used it to buy lottery tickets, saying he hoped “a big one was gonna hit.” He estimated the total taken was closer to $1,000 but acknowledged he had a gambling problem and knew what he was doing was “really stupid.”
Kenosha County Court Commissioner William Michel II set Frey’s bail at $2,000 cash and ordered him to have no contact with the gas station or its employees. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 3.
If convicted, Frey faces up to three years and six months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

the total loss is 2,438.67. How can it be doubled? It was only stolen once. Unless he didn’t pay for the lottery tickets, but it sounds like he used the stolen money for it hence the equal amount. Reminds me of the riddle that shows people can’t math: I Bought A Cow For $800. I sold it for $1000. I bought it again for $1100. I sold it again for $1300 Dollars. How Much Did I Earn?
