KENOSHA, Wis. – A 26-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested Tuesday following a weeks-long investigation into the alleged abuse of a 2-year-old boy at a Kenosha daycare center.
Nour Al Thafir, an employee of Rising Stars Academy Day Care at 5602 75th Street, was taken into custody by Kenosha Police and booked into the Kenosha County Jail on one count of child abuse. She is expected to make her initial court appearance later this week.
According to authorities, the child’s mother contacted police in late April after discovering bruises on her son’s back and arms following his pickup from the facility. That report launched a joint investigation by the Kenosha Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Children and Family Services.
After more than a month of inquiry, investigators identified Althafir as the suspect and made the arrest on June 3.
Rising Stars Academy has not released a public statement regarding the arrest. It is unclear whether Althafir remains employed at the center.
No additional details about the child’s current condition or the evidence collected have been made public. The investigation remains ongoing.
