KENOSHA, Wis. – A 20-year-old Illinois man accused of pointing a loaded firearm at Kenosha residents while intoxicated and attempting to break into their home was charged Thursday with six misdemeanors—despite police recommending two felonies.

Julian Nava, of Highwood, Illinois, appeared in intake court where Assistant District Attorney Sarah Norkus asked for a $20,000 cash bond, citing the danger posed by the incident and Nava’s open felony case in Lake County, Illinois.
“This is a minor who pointed a weapon at an individual… intoxicated, and with open cases out of Lake County,” Norkus told Court Commissioner William Michel II. “We’re asking for no weapons, no alcohol, and no contact with the individuals involved.”
Michel ultimately set bail at $10,000 cash and ordered Nava to return to court on June 27 for a preliminary hearing.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on June 11 near the intersection of 55th Street and 23rd Avenue. A Kenosha resident called 911 to report that someone was attempting to manipulate a window screen to gain entry into the home. When the homeowner turned on the porch light, the suspect allegedly pointed a black semi-automatic pistol directly at him.
Moments later, the same suspect was seen across the street, again pointing the gun toward the house before disappearing behind a nearby residence.
Police located a man matching the description—later identified as Nava—near the scene. As officers approached, he fled on foot while holding something under his jacket. During the pursuit, Nava allegedly tossed a loaded Polymer 80 handgun into the grass. Officers recovered the firearm, which was equipped with a 31-round extended magazine.
Nava was tackled and taken into custody. Officers reported that he showed signs of heavy intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol. An open bottle of Tito’s vodka was found in his backpack. He repeatedly refused to identify himself, responding with vulgarities when asked his name.
Although Kenosha Police requested charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and burglary–armed with a dangerous weapon, the District Attorney’s Office opted instead to file the following six misdemeanors:
- Pointing a firearm at another
- Possession of a firearm while intoxicated
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Resisting an officer
- Attempted criminal trespass to a dwelling
- Disorderly conduct while armed

Police also noted that Nava does not have a concealed carry license and is not old enough to obtain one. He has two pending cases in Lake County, Illinois—one for criminal trespass and another for felony theft.
If convicted of all six misdemeanors, Nava faces up to 45 months in jail and more than $50,000 in fines.

WTF? How can what’s been described here, be charged as misdemeanors? Insanity! Why bother with arrests when the revolving door just gets used as a fan?

New district attorney, same result. Solis is great at talking tough, but actions speak far more than words.
Very interesting…I like Solis. I hope he doesn’t start getting soft on “certain” people. This doesn’t help his image or help me like the prosecutor I thought I voted for.
I wish these Illinois criminals would stay in Illinois, we have enough problems of our own in Wisconsin!
