TWIN LAKES, Wis. – A 29-year-old man is facing five criminal charges, including three counts of felony strangulation and suffocation, after an alleged domestic violence incident early Thursday morning.
Michael H. Rada, of Twin Lakes, was formally charged in Kenosha County Circuit Court on Thursday with three counts of strangulation and suffocation, one count of battery, and one count of disorderly conduct—all with domestic abuse enhancers.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to Rada’s residence on Marion Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. after a woman called 911 and reported he was becoming physical. When officers arrived, they found Rada on the front stoop with visible injuries, including scratches and a bloody nose. He told police he had fallen in the kitchen and denied any physical altercation.
However, the woman told officers that Rada had strangled her three times during a drunken argument sparked by a song that reminded her of her late brother. She reported being attacked on both the couch and the bed, describing how Rada allegedly used both hands to wrap around her neck, making it difficult for her to breathe and causing her pain. She said she feared for her life and fought back by striking him in the face.
Officers documented visible injuries on the woman’s neck and face, as well as bruises and a cut on her knee. She reportedly still felt pain an hour after the alleged assaults. Officers also observed dried blood on her shirt and ear, which she said came from Rada’s nose during the struggle.
Rada appeared in intake court on Friday, where Court Commissioner William Michel II set a $2,000 cash bond. He posted bail and was released Friday. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 3.
Each felony count of strangulation and suffocation carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. If convicted on all charges, Rada could face more than 19 years in custody.
