KENOSHA, Wis. — A 30-year-old Kenosha woman is facing felony drug charges after police say they found methamphetamine on the driver’s seat of a vehicle she was operating during a traffic stop near 22nd Avenue and 79th Street.

Cassy K. Knox was in court Monday, where she was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Class I felony. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $750 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 9.

According to a criminal complaint, Officer McDonough with the Kenosha Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit was conducting surveillance when he saw a man leave a suspected drug house on 24th Avenue and enter a Ford Expedition with suspended plates. After a brief stop at a nearby gas station, officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Knox was reportedly in the driver’s seat and appeared physically shaken.

Police say both Knox and her passenger made “furtive movements” as if trying to hide something. Knox consented to a vehicle search. Officers then located a crystal-like substance on the driver’s seat where she had been sitting. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 0.36 grams.

During Monday’s bail hearing, District Attorney Xavier Solis said Knox has multiple prior convictions in Texas, including a 2022 assault charge for causing bodily injury to a family member in Plano. He also cited convictions in Tarrant County for multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance and a DUI.

“She does have a prior criminal record,” Solis told the court. “We ask not to possess or consume any controlled substance without a valid prescription, without paraphernalia, and not to possess or consume any alcohol.”

If convicted, Knox faces up to 3 years and 6 months in prison and a $10,000 fine. The court may also suspend her driver’s license for up to five years.
