KENOSHA, Wis. – A Kenosha woman reported to the Kenosha County Jail this morning to begin serving a 30-day sentence after pleading guilty to mistreating one of her dogs, a case that prompted disturbing findings by police and humane officers earlier this year.
Lanette Jones, 44, was charged in February with two counts of mistreating animals—both misdemeanors—after officers discovered two dogs, Hulk and Gizzy, living in squalid conditions on an enclosed porch at her home in the 5600 block of 20th Avenue. The animals had no visible food, water, or bedding, and the porch was covered in urine and feces, according to the criminal complaint.
Hulk, a bully breed dog, was found to be emaciated, suffering from severe hip dysplasia and joint disease, and scored a 2 out of 9 on a standard body condition scale. Gizzy, a Shih Tzu, was severely matted with live fleas, feces in his fur, and a hernia. Both dogs were seized and examined at Safe Harbor Humane Society.
On March 6, Jones made her initial court appearance and was released on a signature bond with an order prohibiting her from possessing or caring for any animals.

As part of a plea agreement finalized on July 7, one of the two counts was dismissed and Jones pleaded guilty to the other. Judge Angelina Gabriele sentenced her to 30 days in the Kenosha County Jail with no Huber privileges, meaning she is not allowed out for work or childcare. Jones began serving her sentence Monday morning.
The veterinarian who examined Hulk concluded his condition was likely caused by the neglect and malnutrition he experienced in Jones’s care. Due to severe pain and permanent disfigurement, humane euthanasia was recommended, and Hulk was deemed unadoptable.
Jones’ conviction carries a maximum penalty of nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine. She received no fine but will serve the full month behind bars.
No future court hearings are scheduled.
