KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — A 21-year-old Racine man is facing three misdemeanor charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a highway crash in Somers and lying to deputies during the investigation.
Kadarius D. Bolden was formally charged Friday with hit and run to an attended vehicle, obstructing an officer, and misdemeanor bail jumping. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $2,500 cash bail and set his next court date for August 27.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident began shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday when Kenosha County deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a white Honda Accord that had struck several vehicles on northbound I-94 and fled. Witnesses described the car as weaving through lanes at high speed before sideswiping two vehicles near Highway 142.
A pickup driver who witnessed the crashes reportedly followed the Accord and took photos, prompting the driver to eventually pull over near the 900 block of I-94. When deputies arrived, they found Bolden exiting the vehicle’s passenger seat, though he identified himself as the driver.
At first, Bolden claimed he had been struck by a semi, but when confronted with witness statements, he admitted to being involved in the collisions but claimed he didn’t know what happened. Deputies noted the vehicle had extensive damage, no valid insurance, and that Bolden’s license was suspended.
During a search of the Honda, deputies reported a strong smell of marijuana but found no contraband. Further checks revealed Bolden was out on bond for a separate hit-and-run case in Racine County from earlier this year, with conditions prohibiting him from committing new crimes.
If convicted on all counts, Bolden faces up to two years in jail.
