Exactly. A huge percentage of cases are ultimately dismissed or pled down to ridiculously low, non-criminal outcomes — after the person has spent a lot of time in jail. It would be great to see some numbers on this. Tip to Anonymous: When you float a theory, ask yourself if it seems too simple; if it does, it probably is.
Every citizen (or resident) has a constitutional right to a “speedy trial” that they can demand. They just never ask for them, because they know they’ll be found guilty most likely. Some play the system of low bond, or sign and release, and continue their criminal existence.

It appears that the first three paragraphs sum up the fact that the Sheriff is either incompetent or a a liar. The bottom line, he does not give a damn. Complaints for more than a year and he was unaware? He claims he couldn’t recall discussing this yet claims to place a priority on the well being of the inmates while in his custody. BS!

Yep, I call BS too! Besides, it does not matter what the offender did to get in jail. The point is, he was in jail and they’re supposed to be watched and someone was not doing their job. That’s what taxpayers should be concerned about Because we’re paying their wages and they’re not doing anything to earn it.

I feel so bad, the inmates get better healthcare than many non criminals. Don’t break the law!
The largest budget item in that jail is medicine, dental, Labor and Delivery and Diaylisis. The few nurses have 5,000 dollar deductable, before any minimal coverage kicks in.
Medical “insurance” has been nothing but a scam for over 30 years now.

It’s not so much a matter of waking up to it, as it is to admitting that healthcare is expensive and the current system doesn’t work. So long as people keep voting for Democrats who promise it will be free we will end up with a system where it will be free for the very poorest a negligible hassle for the very rich and the people in the middle will be crushed. You know, like we have now under Obamacare and had before Obamacare.
The lack of medication has been a constant problem, so it would be unfair to blame Zoerner for it. How about having those inmates who are not receiving their medication send a letter to our generous, left-wing worst Ever(s) governor, so he can provide extra funds to our county to fulfill their needs?
In or around 2017, an inmate died by suicide while in custody. Notably, at the time of her death, her hands were restrained behind her back. This incident occurred during a period when former DA Graveley and Sheriff Beth were known to collude in concealing such matters. The subsequent cover-up was significant, especially when contrasted with the current sheriff’s challenges regarding insufficient funding for medical supplies.
