KENOSHA, Wis. – A 41-year-old Kenosha man is facing six criminal charges after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, stealing her phone, and being found with nearly 200 grams of marijuana and Alprazolam pills.
Manuel M. Woods was in court Tuesday, where he was formally charged with robbery with use of force, possession with intent to deliver THC, possession of a controlled substance, battery with a domestic abuse enhancer, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse enhancer.
Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $25,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 5.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded Monday evening to a report of a disturbance at an apartment on 7th Avenue. A witness told dispatch that a man had been hitting a woman before leaving. Officers arrived to find the woman, who had visible swelling and bruising on her face and arms. She told police that Woods, her ex-boyfriend, had dragged her out of the apartment by her hair and punched her in the face approximately 10 times. She said he took her phone and shoes and left.
Officers later located Woods at his residence on 5th Avenue. After initially resisting arrest, Woods allowed officers to search his home and vehicle. Detectives reported finding the victim’s damaged phone in a recycling bin outside, as well as a bag containing 198 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and 14 Alprazolam pills inside the residence.
If convicted on all counts, Woods faces more than 18 years in prison.
