Former Soccer Club Director Jailed Ahead of Child Porn Sentencing For Alleged Witness Tampering

SOMERS, Wis. — A Somers man who pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges has been jailed ahead of sentencing after allegedly contacting a government witness and offering to pay off her mortgage. A federal judge has also ordered a mental health evaluation to determine whether he is competent to proceed.

Steven J. Rezmer, 52, had been free on bond since May but was taken into custody on July 31 following a bond review hearing in Milwaukee. The case stems from a June 2024 raid on Rezmer’s home in the 1200 block of 42nd Avenue in Somers, where agents with the FBI, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, and Kenosha Police Department executed a search warrant and seized digital evidence. Rezmer was later charged with possessing 57 images and 32 videos of child pornography and entered a guilty plea on May 15, 2025.

According to federal prosecutors, Rezmer violated his bond conditions by contacting a government witness in Missouri on July 13. Court records say he called the woman and her mother, referenced an FBI subpoena, and offered to pay off their mortgages if she would help him obtain information. He also allegedly sent photos of his children and attempted to contact her through LinkedIn. Both women expressed fear for their safety and filed reports with law enforcement.

Rezmer’s bond prohibited any contact with witnesses and required compliance with all laws. Prosecutors described his behavior as “tantamount to witness tampering” and possibly bribery, and asked the court to detain him pending sentencing.

During the bond review hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge William E. Duffin granted the prosecution’s request to revoke Rezmer’s release. He also approved a defense motion to have Rezmer evaluated by a mental health professional under federal statute 18 U.S.C. § 4241.

Rezmer’s attorney told the court that his client has been behaving erratically, showing signs of manic and disjointed thinking, and has been difficult to communicate with in preparation for sentencing. The defense acknowledged Rezmer’s contact with the witness but attributed it to poor judgment and possible mental instability. The court found that Rezmer had not shown by clear and convincing evidence that he posed no danger to the community.

A formal order filed July 31 committed Rezmer to the custody of the Attorney General for placement in a suitable facility for up to 30 days. He will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he understands the proceedings and is capable of assisting in his defense. The court recommended the examination take place locally, if possible.

Rezmer had previously served as a director of the AFC Union Racine youth soccer club but resigned shortly after the 2024 raid. The club cited “personal reasons” for his departure and has not been implicated in the case.

Rezmer’s sentencing is currently scheduled for September 4, 2025, in Milwaukee federal court. Under the plea agreement, both parties are expected to recommend a sentence of 48 months in prison. That hearing may be delayed depending on the outcome of the competency evaluation.

Only a pedo would do that. We all need to insist that the list be released. All of these creeps need to be exposed no matter who they are. Both parties are playing us like fools.
