PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – A 37-year-old Racine man accused of inappropriately touching a woman while she slept in her car at a Pleasant Prairie travel center was charged Thursday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with fourth-degree sexual assault, a Class A misdemeanor.

Shane Marchant appeared in custody for his initial appearance, where Morgan Millar of the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office requested a $5,000 cash bail. Court Commissioner William Michel II granted the request and ordered Marchant to have no contact with the 28-year-old woman who reported the assault. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for September 18.
The woman addressed the court during the hearing.
“I don’t know him very well. I don’t know his previous history or nothing,” she said. “I do not feel like he should be out on bond despite how minor the charges may seem. He has no remorse for what he did. And that’s all I’ve got to say about it.”
According to the criminal complaint, the woman said she had made it clear to Marchant that she did not want any sexual contact before falling asleep in her car at the Travel Information Center on August 1. She told police she woke up to find her skirt pulled down and Marchant’s hand touching her genital area. She said she believed he was attempting to penetrate her before she told him to stop.
Police said the woman later showed them a text exchange with Marchant in which she accused him of sexual assault and he responded, “You act like you weren’t going to give it to me anyway LOL.”
During a recorded interview, Marchant initially denied the allegations, then later told investigators that the woman had been “moaning” while he massaged her and claimed “if she wasn’t bleeding, it would have happened.” He admitted to touching her but said it was part of mutual snuggling.
Millar told the court that Marchant has multiple prior convictions, including robbery and resisting arrest in Racine County, and a misdemeanor theft conviction in Kenosha.
Marchant remains in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

Wow, what a scumbag. What is wrong with that woman even getting into a car with him? Nothing like setting yourself up for trouble!

He doesn’t look like a person that would commit a crime.
Seeing how he has assaulted his own face and body, it certainly seems reasonable to believe he assaulted hers.
