KENOSHA, Wis. — A 30-year-old Kenosha man is accused of brutally attacking a former classmate and stealing thousands of dollars in cash during a confrontation near Simmons Island late last month.

Jacob A. Morzfeld appeared in Kenosha County Circuit Court Friday, where he was charged with robbery with use of force and substantial battery in connection with the July 27 incident. Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $15,000 cash and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 12.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police he was near Kennedy Drive watching waves with acquaintances when Morzfeld allegedly struck him in the back of the head multiple times without warning. The blows caused the man to fall, injuring his knees and arms. Morzfeld then allegedly tried to grab the man’s bag, breaking its zipper and scattering about $3,800 in cash.
As the victim tried to gather the money, Morzfeld is accused of punching him repeatedly in the face, nose, and head before scooping up roughly $3,100 and fleeing. The victim, who suffered deep cuts, swelling, and a knee injury requiring medical treatment, was able to recover about$700.
Police said hospital staff treated the man for multiple lacerations, including one exposing fatty tissue, and performed CT scans on his head, neck, elbow, and knee. Witness accounts and Facebook images helped investigators identify Morzfeld, who was arrested Aug. 6 after officers spotted his silver Audi.
Morzfeld was quiet during his brief court appearance, but after the hearing concluded and bail was set, he could be heard from the holding area screaming multiple times in apparent protest. His shouts echoed through the courthouse as other proceedings continued.
If convicted on both charges, Morzfeld faces up to 18½ years in prison.
