KENOSHA, Wis. – U.S. Congressman Bryan Steil announced today that he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Kaley Taffe, after a surprise proposal during a weekend trip in northern Wisconsin.
Steil shared the news Friday on X, writing, “So excited to spend my life with you!” along with a photo of the couple smiling together, Taffe wearing a sparkling engagement ring.
Taffe posted her own account of the engagement, describing an intimate day that began with a kayak ride and ended with a riverside proposal. “Bryan planned an incredible day. A beautiful kayak ride in northern Wisconsin with a picnic at the most scenic riverside campsite you can imagine – no cell service, no other people, just us,” she wrote. “I had no idea it was coming when he got down on one knee – had I suspected anything I would have at least put on a little makeup.”
She added that Steil improvised a makeshift camera stand from a log so they could capture photos of the moment. “It was a day we will definitely never forget & we’re so excited to start our next chapter as Mr. & Mrs. Steil,” Taffe said.
The couple’s social media posts included snapshots of the engagement ring and the backdrop of northern Wisconsin’s scenic wilderness.
