KENOSHA, Wis. — An Illinois woman was charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court after police say she struck her boyfriend’s fiancée in the face with a hammer during a confrontation inside a rental property, leaving the woman with a fractured orbital bone and a concussion.

Rujanna Barbara Lucy, 37, of Zion, Ill., faces one felony count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, a Class F felony punishable by up to 12 years and six months in prison and a $25,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a home near 10th Avenue and 40th Street on August 22 after reports of a violent altercation. Officers found a 33-year-old woman bleeding heavily from her left eye, with swelling, bruising, and a deep laceration above her eyebrow. The woman told officers she had tracked her fiancé to the property, confronted Lucy in the basement, and was struck in the face with a hammer.
Doctors later confirmed the victim had suffered an orbital fracture and concussion, and noted she may need reconstructive surgery depending on the damage to the bones around her eye.
Lucy gave police a different version of events, claiming the victim punched her repeatedly and that she fought back using a small shovel she found in the basement. Officers returned to the property the following day and located a hammer that the victim said had been used against her.
In court Monday, Court Commissioner William Michel II set Lucy’s bail at $5,000 cash. The victim, who attended the hearing with a visibly swollen and stitched eye, pleaded for a high bail and a strict no-contact order, saying she was seeking justice and feared further retaliation. Michel granted the no-contact order, barring Lucy from any direct or indirect contact with the victim.
The confrontation reportedly stemmed from Lucy’s ongoing sexual relationship with the victim’s fiancé, which police said escalated into violence when the women came face to face.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 28.
