Hiller identified the 2017 merger and tax base amount early on as insufficient and faulty. Said she couldn’t understand why any board or combination of boards would handcuff themselves in that way. This was an observation that a lot of people didn’t know or were aware that this alone is the root of our current funding shortfall.
This Village needs more money. The Paddock Lake EMS Contract increases were a part of that solution. Was that handled as delicately as it could have been ? Maybe not, but some say Paddock Lake was leaving regardless. Time will tell if Paddock Lake receives the services they hope they bargained for or if Bristol will try to renegotiate or cancel before the end in 10 years.
Hiller was the messenger, not the problem.
Was she as experienced in a full leadership role as she might have lead us to believe ? Maybe yes maybe no. But everything she did, talked about or proposed is and will be necessary in the coming years.
We got “off” easy with the severance. The gag order may or may not help her secure employment going forward but it is the right thing to do. Besides it’s reported that it is only in effect as long as these current board members are in office. Look around. Does anyone think more than two will still be around after the next two election cycles ?
Hiller was the messenger.
