Why I’m Suing the Clerk of Courts and the County Exec: It Involves My Butt Crack and the County Exec’s Ex-Husband’s Sexual Orientation

KENOSHA, Wis. — Yesterday, I filed a lawsuit against Clerk of Courts Rebecca Matoska-Mentink and County Executive Samantha Kerkman after I discovered that Matoska-Mentink secretly ordered an “internal investigation” into my work as a journalist in intake court — and that County Executive Kerkman, I believe, then used taxpayer dollars to keep the report heavily redacted and hidden from the public.

This situation grew out of my routine coverage of intake court, where I am the only journalist who consistently attends. For years, I have photographed hearings and the in-custody list with standing permission from every court commissioner assigned to intake, including former Commissioner Larry Keating and current Commissioner William Michel II. The list is passed openly among attorneys so they know who is present and when they will be heard. Photographing it lets me work efficiently without constantly disrupting proceedings.

Despite that longstanding approval, on August 25th I was suddenly denied entry to intake court without any notice, reasoning, or documentation. They simply locked out the only press member covering those hearings.

Secret Memo Discovered Through Judge Kerkman’s Redactions

To uncover what happened, I submitted a public records request to Judge Chad Kerkman seeking emails referencing my exclusion. In response, Judge Kerkman provided a heavily redacted memorandum authored by Matoska-Mentink, revealing for the first time a behind-the-scenes “internal investigation” into my conduct. It is almost a certainty that Chad ordered Becky to conduct the “investigation.”

Nicole Nobile, Judicial Assistant (D)
(facebook.com)

Instead of interviewing the clerk who works intake daily, Matoska-Mentink opted to speak with floating clerk Nicole Nobile, who only works intake occasionally—once or twice a month. According to the redacted memo Judge Kerkman released, Nobile claimed I took a photograph “without asking permission,” despite my ongoing approval to do so, and she also claimed that when I knelt to take a photo, my butt crack was partly showing. Silly right?

Notably, I weighed around 335 lbs at the time of that alleged incident. I have since lost nearly 90 lbs on the ketogenic diet. And Matoska-Mentink should understand that weight loss takes effort — she herself recently underwent a very noticeable transformation. Not sure if she takes the weight-loss shots or what.

These trivial issues were treated as grounds for a covert inquiry into a journalist who had done nothing wrong.

Matoska-Mentink’s Own Words

In a recent interview I conducted with Matoska-Mentink, I asked whether she knew that many of her employees strongly disliked her. She replied, “Yes.” When I asked how she felt about that, she responded, “Good.” She also admitted, in her own words, that she is “nasty and vindictive.”

Her answers raise a legitimate concern: whether her personal hostility is influencing official actions.

County Executive’s Role in Concealment

While Matoska-Mentink initiated the investigation, I believe County Executive Kerkman then took over the concealment. When I requested an unredacted copy of the memo, County Executive Kerkman intervened and authorized a high-priced Milwaukee law firm — costing what I believe to be thousands of taxpayer dollars — to fight full disclosure.

County Executive Kerkman’s lawyer has said the redactions protect employees from harassment. Yet those involved have already openly discussed the investigation inside the courthouse. In my view, the real intent was to prevent the public from seeing what the document contains.

I also believe County Executive Kerkman’s involvement may be tied to her repeated requests that I remove photos she claimed made her ex-husband appear gay. I have never made any claims about his sexuality. I simply published images he publicly posted, and it appears she did not like the public perception that resulted. I don’t care if he’s gay or not— I just care that he abuses his power and he’s a lunatic and a maniac that deserves to be un-elected in Spring of 2027.

Improper Judicial Advice Allegation

My lawsuit further alleges that Matoska-Mentink and County Executive Kerkman apparently relied on legal advice from Judge Kerkman when deciding what to redact. Wisconsin law does not allow judges to act as attorneys for executive officials, and that improper involvement could compel full disclosure of the withheld portions.

Not Connected to Any Other Case

This lawsuit is entirely separate from the federal civil-rights lawsuit I filed against Judge Kerkman in September. The request for this memo was made solely to find out why I was banned from a public courtroom without explanation.

Why This Lawsuit Matters

This case is about the public’s right to transparency in public courtrooms. A journalist was secretly investigated for a permitted photo and a minor wardrobe issue. A county executive then seemingly used government resources to conceal the findings.

Nothing I did violated any rules. Commissioners have consistently approved my work. The only clear violations here involve transparency and accountability.

If government officials can quietly remove the only journalist present, investigate him behind his back, and then conceal the documentation, then the people of Kenosha County lose their right to know what is happening in their courts.

Courtrooms belong to the public. This lawsuit asks the justice system to ensure they remain that way.

  1. Isn’t it funny the left only cares about rights when it fits their agenda? Don’t the left constantly protest for their rights? And constantly cry that trump is taking their rights away?

      1. I hate to spill some of the Trump Cult kool-aid, but I have to point out the obvious. This judge is acting no different than the Pedo-in-chief. Yes, this judge needs to be condemned and we are blessed that Kevin is fighting this corruption. However, it is inconsistent logic to condemn this judge and not condemn Trump.

        1. Please please please cite one credible instance that you have of Trump being a pedophile. If you can’t do that, just shut the fuck up. I’m so sick of your rhetoric on here. He’s your president. Joe Biden was a kid sniffing fucking pedophile. Bill Clinton, scumbag motherfucker, too tell me more about how the Democratic Party is so great

          1. You tell me why Trump will not allow the release of the Epstein records. He promised all of us he would. Now he will not. Why? Until he keeps his word and all these records are released, it is reasonable to assume he is concealing his sexual acts with teenaged girls.

Fuck Clinton and Biden, if they are in the Epstein records, I want to know.

This site is all about condemning pedos, except for the Dear Leader. If he wasn’t Trump, all of you people would be calling for the rope.

            1. I believe years ago, during his 1st term, Trump admitted to being part of the “swamp” years ago. That’s one of the reasons from what I remember, that he says it’s why he knows how they work and how to try and deal with them. No doubt he is on the list, but he admits to being involved with that group years ago, but isn’t anymore.

Someone mentioned one of the reasons they aren’t releasing the list is for “leverage” against those who are on the list. You know, to pass bills and such, but I think they need to release the list and let the consequences fall where they may. I even heard Ronald Reagan was on the list, but nobody knows. I think we would all be surprised at some of the people that are on list.

              6
              1
            2. I’m sure you know it’s not Trump blocking the release right? Perhaps you should check with Democrats and judges whom are obstructing.

              1. Come on. Think about it.

Trump’s Botox bimbo Attorney General bragged that the list was on her desk. Trump could simply order her to release it. But he will not do it, despite his promise to do so. All of us should be able to see it. We will then know which of our leaders and billionaires are bourgeois pedophiles.

            3. Hey idiots with TDS, how long did the Democrats in government from Biden/Harris to Shumer/Pelosi have their access or controll of the Epstein files????

              Enough said on that 😉

As for this lawsuit Kevin has going on, Good on you Kevin and go get’em.

              9
              3
              1. You make a valid point. The Dems refused to release these records. They were wrong and chose to protect the 1%’er pedo population.

Now Trump is in power. He told us he would release these records. Like the evil Dems, he refuses to keep his word and has chosen to protect these evil pedos. That make him complicit or, he is on the pedo list himself.

No, it is not over. Two wrongs do not make it right.

              2. Better statement is HOW LONG HAVE DEMS SAT IN THE OVAL OFFICE? Look how our country has devolved under their reigns. SICKENING.

          2. Hey dude you are s total A hole! If you believe trump was not involved with Epstein and his corrupt child molestation! Moron!

            4
            3
        2. Trump is very welcoming and open with the press. He calls them out on the hat he thinks is wrong, but he interacts with them.
Kevin is a journalist, and deserves to be able to document these things for all of us. Shutting that down is un american.
If a little butt crack is so offensive, don’t stare at a persons but when they crouch down.
Let Kevin do his job, let us citizens see and read about it so we’re informed.
And nobody cares this day and age who is gay. You’re not special, straight people don’t claim a month, get past yourself…..

          1. He can release the Epstein records, like he promised, and prove it. He does not, therefore he is. You might have used the word “complicit”. You all do. True and absolute devotion to a con man does not end well for the enamored.

            2. I’m certain Trump is on the list, as certain as I am that Hillary’s subpoenaed (but never turned over) emails were just about Chelsea’s wedding plans, just as I’m sure the 50, “experts” honestly thought Hunter’s laptop was a Russian dirty trick. Could any thinking person now believe the Democrats’ sudden push to release the list after refusing to do so when they ran everything isn’t because the deep state finally has a faked trip(s) and witnesses lined up to say they were with him? They sure had no problems with previous lawfare, and they have the resources to study Trump’s correspondence and travels to set up a phony trip. Just need to find a single trip he made with somebody no longer with us, and say it was just a cover for an island trip. Only have to blackmail or threaten the lives of one of the Trump plane’s crew to get them to concur falsely.

          2. His best friend had an island of underage girls for them to f#ck. Girls have come forward… sued… and were paid off. It’s not a secret to anyone but you.

    1. You two are a waste of time. THIS is why our country is shit. Too busy fighting over pos government elects when we need to throw their asses out. You have turds on both side in this case and both are horrible excuses of public officials.

    3. Not funny because the Right simply does not fight as a consolidated unit and always decays slowly to loss on its path of sporadic individual reactions.
Good this suit was filed, but even if successful will its effects, though positive, be limited. Until the Right can hit back with a direct continuous sustainable consolidated force, the Left will remain in ultimate control.

    4. Yes That’s a Boomer Reference.

80% of the below comments are Trump related.

Trump Derangement Syndrome runs strong here.

      You’ve been warned

      1. Interestingly, the article has nothing to do with Trump yet almost all the comments do. The entire leftist/marxist platform has zero ideas, just hate Trump.

        1. Great. Another sexually frustrated, immature, creepy, pervert old man who, like an exhibitionist just can not contain his primal urges, and forces us to read about his sexual fantasies.

      1. To have a recall election, you need to have someone run against the person you’re seeking to recall. Who would that candidate be? You?

  5. Are these judges and prosecutors all Ted Kmiec lovers? 🤔 Something surely is strange about this and I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past our seriously corrupt kenosha county judges or that scumbag Binger who tried to prosecute our hero Kyle Rittenhouse! Besides, Binger looks gay to me and might be the next victim found dead in Kmiecs bed soon??? Lol. 😆 Either way, its more than likely a bunch of crooked, immature, bullshit against you Kevin, because you tell the truth and that hurts their butt holes, i mean feelings 😅

  6. Sam Kerkman has done a lot of questionable things as County Executive. She has no moral compass. Never has. She had affairs while married, and panders to the left. 11. May I recommend wearing a belt and a long tshirt tucked in. This should take care butt crack issue and possibly get you back into intake court.

    4
    2
  12. So, the alleged justification for this eternal prohibition is an accidental wardrobe malfunction during a photograph in Michel’s courtroom, reported not by the clerk but by her occasional substitute? Fascinating. Perhaps the next step is a formal inquiry into whether the “complainant” even exists.
If that is truly the foundation for a permanent ban, then the term due process has clearly taken a sabbatical.

    13

  13. Why the question mark next to Samantha Kerkman’s political affiliation when she’s always identified as Republican? Seems rather convenient.

    26
    4
    1. So you’re telling me Samantha Kerkman was bright enough to dupe the Wisconsin GOP as a Republican in the Wisconsin State Assembly for 21 years? Give me a break. Face the truth: She’s a longtime Republican and that doesn’t conveniently change for people like you just because she’s making decisions you don’t like.

        1. Uhhh, yeah. He identifies as a Republican and is considered a Republican by his own party. Just because morons like you don’t think he’s a Republican doesn’t mean he’s not one. Even though Vos is what you’d probably call a RINO, he’s still a REPUBLICAN whether you like it or not. I hope you get medicine for your delusional thoughts.

          1. Lot of individuality there with penises who identify as women, too. Doesn’t mean they ARE one.

Kerkman acts like a Democrat, supports leftist behaviors, and has appointed leftists into positions where Republicans would make more sense.

Just because she identifies as a (R) doesn’t mean she is one.

Just like a RINO isn’t actually an (R). Just a (D) in disguise… like Kerkman, Vos, and (probably) you.

            7
            3
            1. Assuming you’re even open-minded enough, do some research and you will find that even so-called RINOS just about always vote in support of GOP-sponsored measures. Just because they don’t always support your King Trump’s position doesn’t make them non-Republicans.

    2. Sam, in my opinion, saw an opportunity when Jim Kreuser decided to not run again for County Executive. Home town gal. Sub standard pay in Madison. $57,400. as I recall. Versus $121,400. for County Executive
Sam did good in Madison. Toed the GOP line. Responded to her constituent’s well. But how much can you do as a divorced mom on less than $60 grand a year ?
Sam understands that County Executive can be a life time job until you don’t want it anymore. Though she may be the first to break that cycle.

So her not being a hard line conservative it a calculation that I’m sure she deals with every day.

      Is she liberal. No.
But is she a hard line conservative ? Not in this county. Not being surrounded by liberals. She’s just trying to keep her job.
Any conservative can win now in Kenosha as she has done. But will it be her next round ?
      She hopes so.

      1

      1. Sam was (maybe still is?) on the payroll for at least two of Robin Vos’ companies, so there was definitely supplemental income.

  15. Not sure if she took the shot or what. What shot are you referring too? A weight losing shot or the bio weapon? Please explain

    2
    2
  16. “My lawsuit further alleges that Matoska-Mentink and County Executive Kerkman apparently relied on legal advice from Judge Kerkman when deciding what to redact. Wisconsin law does not allow judges to act as attorneys for executive officials, and that improper involvement could compel full disclosure of the withheld portions.“

I used to work there aa an intern and don’t forget that Judge Rossell used to do this as well. And the part with employees strongly disliking Matoska is true. When I was there, that is all I heard throughout the courthouse from employees when walking by their cubicles or speaking with them directly.

    21
    4
  17. Funny how Matoska-Mentink ran against Sam and lost yet now their comrades in arms against a shared enemy Kevin Mathewson.

Additionally interesting how County Executive is voted on in the spring yet the clerk office is voted on in November.
    See links below to verify.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Kenosha_County_Executive_election

    https://ballotpedia.org/Rebecca_Matoska-Mentink_(Kenosha_County_Clerk_of_Circuit_Court,_Wisconsin,_candidate_2022)

Just ANOTHER EXAMPLE of how elections are so fucking important when pick Republicans versus Democrats. Though it’s getting harder and harder to see Sam as a true Republican.
I mean I get it that she needs to work across the aisle with all county officials regardless of their political affiliations to get things done but in this case Sam needs to fight for the Constitution and not pal up with her obvious personal history with these two individuals.
Besides Rebecca doesn’t answer to Sam in any way. They are both elected officials and answer only to us the voters.
But us “VOTERS” are dropping the ball when it comes to showing up at the polls !!

    Elections have consequences !!
Our side needs to start thinking that way both in the spring and fall. This next spring and next fall.
Both of these “elected officials” are up next election cycle.

    https://www.kenoshacountywi.gov/DocumentCenter/View/22233/ELECTION-CHART-2026?bidId=

Will you be there to vote them both out ??
Will you be there to run against them both ??

The iron is hot !! Time to look in the mirror and ask yourself, do I want these offices ??
Can I do these jobs ??
If so, speak up ! Now !!!

  18. Am I the only one that get’s the impression that the liberal comments here comparing Trumps behavior to Kerkman’s, cult Kool aid comments, pedo-in-chief are written by angry Man Cow Carli or Tad & Biff?

    18
    4
  19. ” I asked whether she knew that many of her employees strongly disliked her. She replied, “Yes.” When I asked how she felt about that, she responded, “Good.” She also admitted, in her own words, that she is “nasty and vindictive.””

Of course this is true. It IS the mindset of democrats/liberals/progressives/socialists/communists for centuries that anyone below them are their slaves.

    7
    3
  20. Yes Kevin, run for Mayor. I am retired and would knock on doors daily to see you win.

Eliminate the City Administrator position to save tax payers money since it’s a worthless position anyway. fire the Director of Inspection Dept. Gary Robert’s, give that position to me. My experience? Same as his, none. I am not a liar is the main benefit. Good start to turn this town Red.

    20
    5
  21. Maybe Kevin will find dirty politics in somers. With king George and Sam kerkman. Hope so!!! Sneaking water in and nothing is said about it. I found out from an engineer. Loop system for shoreland.

    1
    2
  22. Kevin,

Well written. I do have to admit these things are child’s play for these treasonous criminals. Imagine a situation where the Kerkman’s phone calls and political reference and records (Ie, CONVID-19, election interference, seditious conspiracy) are far worse. These are not slap on the wrist behaviors, they’re treason behaviors. Fortunately, someone’s been watching and it’s pretty clear they are aware of it at this point. 🫵🏻👍

    3
    3
  23. From a previous post and worth repeating….

“Fuck the left! Bunch of crooked inbred libtarded dumocratic morons!”

    4
    3
  24. I hope every one of the lefty’s on the county board votes to kill this budget, that increases employee health insurance premiums—YET AGAIN.

The lefty’s have shut down the federal government in the name of lower healthcare, and the local leftys are screaming about it too.

Put your money where your mouth is and prove you give a shit about healthcare costs when you can actually DO SOMETHING about it.

You won’t, though. Because the left is all talk and no real substance.

    10
    1. Kirby and Gentz commenting on how great the insurance is shows how dumb they are.

Record employee turnover, number one complaint is that the nominal wage increases don’t cover the annual jack up of insurance costs.

Tappa talking about a 2% increase across the board—
It’s NOT an across the board increase. It’s a 2% increase of the wage scale.

So, if your annual increase was $1000 last year, your increase will be $1020 for 2026.

Hopefully, if any county board members are reading this, you will see this comment.

Also, Clara lied to you. We saw the insurance program yesterday before the budget hearings.

She’s lied to you about a lot of other stuff, too, but y’all are too dense to realize it.

  25. Kevin, great reporting. This issue is getting personal for you and the KERKMAN’S!! No wonder you’re getting the silent treatment. Insinuating that the judge is gay is below the belt, but we deserve to see the county documentation….. Yellow journalism at it’s best.!

    1. They are joining efforts to isolate you. Talking to you may lead to sanctions, and snitching is required to gain the King’s approval.

  26. Kirkman and many other need to go down for their actions its about time Kenosha get these bad people out of are public offices and courts
The lake Geneva good old boys on the lake. Look deeper you will find out more about all of these people. I support you Kevin fry them all.
    this needs to stop,

    9
    2
    1. That man is a has been. His liberal thinking is so skewed and I would never even think of hiring him. At this point he has allowed his dumb behavior and opinions overshadow whatever his legal talents are. Sad man.

  27. Why is this even a battle, His behavior is direct, and the evidence is there, He should be pulled off the bench until formal investigation is done, before he causes more damage for the people of Kenosha! His ex-wife should also be removed from any power or sensitive information until then, this needs to stop these people are taking are city and making it a bad place!

    2
    2
  28. Too bad the comments deviated so far from the topic at hand. This post was not about Trump. It is about local politics. It seems none of you care about what happens on the local level. Too bad.

    1
    1
    1. And the local level is a mess, which will impact everyone in Kenosha. Brookside can’t attract quality staff? Guess Gramma will wind up with bedsores and her pain pills stolen, more missing glasses, hearing aids, broken bones, etc. That costs taxpayers money to replace and cover lawsuits. Highway Department can’t retain good plow drivers? I’ve seen the way people drive on a sunny, beautiful day— winter is going to be a death march at 90MPH down Highway S. And the Sheriff’s department— they won’t be out there helping because they do zero traffic control, and they don’t really have anything that makes good deputies want to stay in Kenosha as opposed to Racine, Walworth, Lake, etc. Human Resources is too busy bending the employees over their desks for the daily a**-fucking to see that no quality employees means taxpayers aren’t receiving the services they pay for with their property taxes. Even the GOOD HR people are leaving or looking to leave because of how badly Clara runs her department.

No one in senior management is doing anything to help, either. Sammy has filled her administration with people who care more about doing what it takes to get her re-elected than actually doing what the taxpayers PAY them to do.

But ya know what? She will get re-elected. So will Mentink, and so will Chad. Because people vote for names they know, regardless of how bad they are.

A comment above said they hope that a conservative runs against Sam— I just hope that SOMEONE runs against her, because it will be easier to replace a one-term flop than it would be to replace a multiple-term Kerkman. She’s done a lot of damage in her four years, and although it’s not showing too much yet, it will, soon. Her budget is very, very lean, and if 2026 doesn’t go the exact way that this budget predicts, there’s not room to play. That could mean a HUGE levy increase in 2026 or 2027.

And that County Board just smiled and nodded and said, “Ok! yes!” like they had half a clue what they were looking at. It’s time to get rid of all of them and start over with a group that actually cares about the taxpayers.

Replace them ALL. Not a single incumbent in Kenosha in 2026.

    2. The problem is that K-man Kev honors the First Amendment and lets that fuck-faced troll express her toxic messages against our commander in chief. How glorious it would be if that same First Amendment were actually respected when it comes to his right to take pictures.

  29. So in our county, the clerk of courts, the deputy chief judge, and the county executive are Democrats. Oops the last one is actually a RINO. The first two conducted a secret internal investigation, interrogating county court employees under coercion to inform on their coworkers, or else. They are trying to investigate which employees or law enforcement officers spoke or were friendly with journalist Kevin. Employees freaked out and started pointing fingers at each other. No one has the integrity to sign the secret classified memo, and they redact it to prevent employees from disclosing how they were questioned under duress. For Democrats in this county, they are handling things much worse than the worst tyranny. All three forgot they were elected, and their practices make the court system of our county the shadiest in the Midwest. We need good Republicans to run against these three, and once they lose their public positions, start a real investigation conducted by the DOJ, because in Madison there won’t be any relief with that useless scarecrow in charge. Time to think. Time to act.
