KENOSHA, Wis. – A once-celebrated Kenosha nonprofit that had a major fundraiser scheduled for tomorrow—an event that had already raised thousands of dollars—is now in turmoil after allegations surfaced that its founder, Alanna Schumacher, stole money from the organization meant to help local families. According to her Facebook page, Schumacher is a special education professional with the Kenosha Unified School District, but KUSD told KCE she resigned in 2023.

Agreed this young lady is an amazing human being.She’s actually been targeted because another person on the board wanted to be paid.Who had been complaining about it for well over a year and been threatening to actually leave if she wasn’t paid. This person also pulled the trigger and decided that she was no longer gonna commit a great cause and finish the fun raisers and the things that they have already committed to. Taking from the community. Says a little bit about the reputation of the people who are actually still running this not for profit. I know for a fact the girl that’s being accused for this was so opposed and disgusted by the fact that they wer in a continue doing the right thing and committing to their current fundraisers that they’ve already investedent. Even even ask them at the board meeting to take a minute and reflect. And she will take time for them to figure out. I know for a fact because I have seen it and was there to witness it.She had permission to do these things by two people that are on her board. The things she did are all within the bylaws of their non for profit and prior to this , she’s the founder and has done this 4 years without a single dime or anything. She was in a current hardship herself and could no longer afford to pay for these things that actually were used to run the non for profit , seeing the other people that were involved with this didn’t want to do the majority of the work.

That group is full of posts with genuinely helpful advice for tough situations, plus a lifeline for moms who need food or formula. She actually had a hardship herself and kept it together and continued giving to the community. If you see a person that can use some help, give them money directly. No need to filter it through someone else.
When there are fund raisers for trips that these kids go on like volleyball tournaments and such they will sell popcorn or candy or whatever.
I just give them cash.
Otherwise 50% goes to buy the popcorn I don’t want and Candy I shouldn’t eat.
Instead of money, give what they need: food, toys, clothes, etc. if you give money it may not go to the kids if the mom is a POS.
It’s a great idea to give the toy, etc. However, I have seen parents go so low as to sell or return the items that were donated to get the cash for themselves. Unfortunately, we can’t make it entirely fool proof, but this is a good idea too.

Wow. I was looking this morning for somewhere to donate or to sponsor a family for Thanksgiving. I was going to make a donation and then this popped up. It really makes you not want to donate. It’s sad.
Linda Faye Foundation does the same thing, they have taken quite a bit money from the community with little to none going back in.

The way the people “in the know” in these comments can’t put together a coherent sentence is scary. I sure hope these are not the people running the non-profit. If so, no wonder it’s a mess.
I’m not connected to, or even familiar with, this nonprofit group — but from what I can tell, these are still just allegations. Whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty”? There’s always a chance she’s been accused by someone who’s jealous, spiteful, or maybe just doesn’t understand how the organization operates.
As I understand it, it’s not unusual for people who run nonprofits to be fairly compensated for their work, with any remaining funds going toward the cause — not to shareholders. Obviously, if she actually stole money or took anything beyond what was agreed upon, that’s wrong and should carry the proper legal and reputational consequences.
But if this turns out to be a false accusation, it would be a real shame for her reputation to be destroyed — and for an organization that’s genuinely helped people to be torn apart — over nothing. And if it is proven that the accusation was false, I hope whoever started it is exposed and held accountable as well, and required to publicly apologize for the damage they caused.
Integrity is what you do when nobody is watching.

This group was great when it was a simple community of Moms willing to help one another meet various needs. The giving garage was a great addition, but once it started really growing, they seem to have lost the focus of how it started:
Moms helping Moms.
That’s what this area needs- something similar to Wisconsin Town Hall- but limited to Moms. A few admins that can block scammers/spammers, remove people for ghosting during sales agreements, and then let the Moms form a community.
It’s really a shame that it got so far off track, in an attempt to grow beyond what is really needed.
