If this cat had been arrested, he could have posted the $50k on the warrant and been released, as that was the amount on the arrest warrant. Of course bail should be less than that, given that he made a voluntary appearance in court without an arrest. Bail = $25k? $28k? Now we’re splitting hairs.
Question: If a defendant posts bail and skips town never to return, where does the $$$ go? The city? The county? The Clerk of Court? And how much do “we” collect every year on forfeited bail? It would be great to see some numbers on that.
The bail $ is supposed to be forfeit, your bail is basically an “insurance policy” you put up that you’ll appear or you’ll forfeit.
