KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — It’s that time again. Kenosha County Eye is back with another edition of the Naughty & Nice List — honoring the folks doing good for our community, and calling out the ones who have earned a figurative lump of coal. As always, readers help shape this list. Community voices matter. Keep sending your thoughts, tips, and nominations. And a reminder — we are only accepting nominations for the Nice List going forward. Our final Christmas Eve list will celebrate only the good. There is no place for coal on Christmas Eve.

NAUGHTY LIST
• Kenosha County Clerk of Courts Rebecca Matoska-Mentink
Our Clerk of Courts continues to be one of the most disliked department heads in Kenosha County. She has acknowledged being vindictive and widely unpopular, yet refuses to change her behavior. She has been involved in efforts to keep public records hidden and weaponize her office. The courthouse deserves competent, professional leadership — not hostility, ego, and obstruction. Take your coal and let someone else run. Retire.
• Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan
This now-felon judge disgraced the legal system she swore to uphold. She abused her position, violated the law, and betrayed the judiciary and the people it serves. She earned her place on the Naughty List the hard way.
• Attorney Sam Hall
County Executive Samantha Kerkman has seemingly handed Hall a taxpayer-funded blank check to fight against government transparency. Whether out of incompetence or intent, his advice has resulted in secrecy, obstruction, and tens of thousands in wasted taxpayer dollars. Not exactly a Christmas blessing for Kenosha County residents.
• Attorney Remzy Bitar
Serving as attorney for Salem Lakes, Bitar has either seemingly advised the village that it can ignore a Wisconsin Supreme Court order on public social media comments — or simply doesn’t understand the law well enough to advise correctly. Either possibility is deeply concerning. The taxpayers paying the bill deserve better.
• Kenosha County Corporation Counsel Joey Cardamone
Cardamone has long been aligned with far-left political activism rather than legal neutrality. Whether intentionally misleading officials or simply not understanding public records law, the result has been government secrecy and citizens losing access to records they have a legal right to. That earns a spot on the Naughty List.
Governor Tony Evers
Our lame duck Governor is appointing a liberal activist to the bench in Branch 4. Not because he’s a good lawyer, but because of political affiliation and donors. He overlooked better options and chose politics as usual. For this, he deserves a dump truck full of coal. David “One Dollar” Hughes will make this community less safe whether he is in the criminal rotation or the civil rotation.

NICE LIST
• Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office Detective Ron Eckert
Detective Eckert makes the Nice List for his outstanding work in the murder investigation of Maximilian More. He went above and beyond, assisting another agency and helping ensure a dangerous killer faces justice. Dedication like that keeps Kenosha safer. Well done, Ronnie.
• “City of Kenosha” Satire Page
Sometimes the community needs a laugh — and this page delivers. Humor has value, and Kenosha has embraced this satire as part of the local culture.
• KDOG — Kenosha Drug Operations Group
KDOG continues to remove dangerous narcotics and violent criminals from our streets, recently playing a key role in taking down disgraced former county board supervisor Andy “Sergeant Hard” Berg. Their work is difficult, dangerous, and critical to community safety.
• Pleasant Prairie Police Department, Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office & Twin Lakes Public Safety (Police, Fire & EMS)
All of these agencies earn a shared place on the Nice List for their incredible commitment to Shop With A Cop–style programs and holiday outreach. Their officers, deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and support staff donate their own time — and often their own money — to make Christmas brighter for countless children across Kenosha County. They bring joy, dignity, warmth, and hope to families who truly need it, showing the heart behind the badge and reminding the community what compassionate public service looks like.
• Salem Lakes Trustee Pete Poli
Poli stands out as the only board member consistently asking real questions, challenging bad decisions, and thinking critically. He works for taxpayers, not political insiders — and residents notice. He earns this spot.
We will continue publishing Naughty & Nice Lists as Christmas approaches — but after this edition, we are only accepting Nice List nominations. The final list will be released on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Eve is no place for lumps of coal.
Send nominations, tips, and suggestions. Kenosha County Eye is listening.

OK, I will make a comment.
I love the naughty and the nice.
Some of the naughty need to be posted twice or thrice just because the are naughty many times!
I fully understand Tony Evers being on the Naughty List. Evers has done nothing to break the dysfunctional gridlock caused by lockstep political parties unwilling to find common ground and actually do something positive for Wisconsin.
I have to disagree with Becky Matoska-Mentink being on the list. I do understand Kevin’s frustration over his access to records and his frustration in her devotion to the Democratic party. However, when I had access to the the Clerk of Courts Office, during a County position and State position, I never saw or experienced her being unprofessional or confrontative with staff. Granted, she was not my supervisor, but she seemed very industrious – working well after hours; and never heard or saw dissatisfaction with her from the staff. So her being the most disliked department head in Kenosha County is a bit of a disconnect.
I agree with Governor Evers on the naughty list, maybe KUSD.. Wisconsin has THE LARGEST black student to white student achievement gap nationwide, as it usually has for years. Evers was the head of the Dept of Public Instruction before governor, and never identified the problem. KUSD has not once attempted to identify the cause of the problem either, and they will not. This should be priority number 1 for the school board. Why? Why aren’t black students performing the same? They’re in the same schools and classes as everyone else. Identify the cause, repair the deficit. Do better in 2026 please public education…
Blame kusd or blame their parents?
Blame both, there’s enough blame to go around.
Yes Evers is a total assclown, but we can’t blame him or kusd for the achievement gap. This starts and stops with family and home.
I guess we’d all like to see the Facts and stats of a comprehensive look into that and provided in writing, with a public plan on who needs to do what to erase that gap. I’m sick of just seeing this “gap” and no accountability as to why it exists. No teacher, administrator, school board, or DPI can say who isn’t doing their part.
Hang on Poli, the reinforcement are coming in April.
Not unless people step up and run-
and win
You got to love the idiots that dislike Poli. These are the special needs people that can’t add. Poli the only board member to say NO to the borrowing budget, how’s your 20-40% tax increase feel? Grandma will be eating cat food now.
I nominate Sam Kerkman, she says Republican but acts more like a Democrat.
Sam is even so useless she can’t make the naughty list.
Evers, worst governor of Wisconsin ever!
