KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — A 67-year-old Illinois man on his way to work in Kenosha escaped injury early Monday morning after his pickup truck struck multiple horses that had wandered onto a dark stretch of rural roadway in western Kenosha County.
The crash happened around 4:14 a.m. near the intersection of County Trunk Highway WG and County Trunk Highway MB. According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the man, from Antioch, Illinois, was driving a 2004 Ford F-350 eastbound when he collided with several horses that had escaped from a nearby farm. His airbags deployed and the truck sustained major damage, but deputies said he was not hurt. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors, and deputies noted the area was very dark at the time of the crash.
Investigators determined that the horses belonged to a local resident and had broken out of a fenced enclosure before making their way onto the roadway. Five horses died at the scene. A sixth horse was later euthanized by the owner because of the severity of its injuries. The owners used heavy equipment to remove the animals and are managing burial and disposal on their property. One of six stables on the property showed fencing damage consistent with the escape, and authorities noted that approximately 28 horses are kept there.
The roadway was closed for about an hour and a half while deputies secured the area and ensured public safety. Deputies said citations related to animals at large may be issued once the daylight investigation is complete.
Sheriff David Zoerner called the incident tragic and said deputies responded quickly to protect the public. He also reminded drivers to use extra caution on rural roads, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is low.

So this driver does not look for deer either…. sorry..he wasn’t in control if his vehicle, maybe going too fast fir conditions ir was fkn around with the radio or his morning donut.
Damn
6 horses dead because of inattentiveness.
Hold your horses. The horses would still be alive had they been fenced in. I don’t think the driver was doing any horseplay when he was driving.
It will end up being the owner of the horse’s fault. They need better fencing.
Of course it’s the stable’s fault. Horses aren’t supposed to be out on roads at 4 a.m.
I’ll bet none of the horses were wearing reflective vests, or had their headlights on.
Comment of the day. I can’t believe people think he actually aimed for horses. Ignorant morons.
But managed to trounce 6… wtf
Ignorant you are
People need to slow down on these county roads
What does that have to do with anything?
It cracks me up but people care more about the animals than the fact that he’s lucky one of them didn’t go through his windshield and kill him. I’ve seen it! Then again if you punch another human being it must have been a reason, kick a dog and you’ll get a week in jail
People are evil. Animals aren’t. Who cares what you think anyway.
I give your rebuttal an F, I’ve seen many evil animals:
EVIL PITBULL ATTACKS
EVIL MONKEYS ON THE LOOSE
EVIL BEARS BREAK IN AND STEAL PORRIDGE
and to say we don’t care, that is just obtuse.
28 horses on only 10 acres?! WTF
That’s irresponsible horse-ownership. Way too many horses.
Maybe they rescue horses that are in need.Have you ever thought of that?
I know the owner, they are not.
…and you think it’s okay to jam “rescue horses” into small paddocks like that? {insert facepalm}
first comment shows how dumb people are!
And this comment shows an unreasonableness.. he ran into 6 fkn horses and you think he was alert. Save us all if you sit on a jury
Your comment isn’t even English…
Merry Christmas
6 horses… Unless he was drifting sideways i don’t get how this man was capable of killing 6 horses.
Not that difficult to break their legs. Once that occurs, they are euthanized.
Guinness world record now at 6
Beats previous record of 1 by 5
They herd close together when stressed. Not that difficult to comprehend. Not common, but certainly plausible.
I guess we won’t know because we weren’t there
Horrible
Glad the driver was in a 1 ton truck and not a Mustang or Bronco
Or a Pinto…
A lot of horsepower in those
Not a laughing matter, similar happened to me. Do not ever swerve out of the way of an animal, you put both hands on the wheel and drive through them. Swerving will cause your vehicle to lose control and roll over, or even hit a tree head on. Owners fault, sorry the horses, but glad the driver walked away.
Agreed.
Or use your brakes.
Or fix your fence (and not have a million horses).
You have to add a picture of this loser so that, once Bill Michel gives him the classic signature bond, we, the people, can wish him a Happy New Year.
Why is he a loser? Or do you mean the owner of the horses?
Do you people actually think that the owner’s knew all along about a fence being broke and Not being suitable to keep the horses in?
Do you honestly think someone would intentionally hit six horses?
