SALEM LAKES, Wis. — James Beinecke has become a frequent and contentious presence in Salem Lakes community Facebook groups, leading multiple residents to nominate him for inclusion in Kenosha County Eye’s ongoing “Internet Troll” series.
Residents who contacted this publication described a pattern of online behavior they say is condescending, combative, and discouraging to open discussion. Screenshots submitted show Beinecke repeatedly inserting himself into village-related debates, often lecturing critics and dismissing opposing viewpoints. Several residents said his tone and persistence have made others reluctant to speak publicly.
Residents also pointed to Beinecke’s repeated defense of Village President Rita Bucur, describing him as a frequent and aggressive surrogate on her behalf. Screenshots reviewed by Kenosha County Eye show Beinecke routinely stepping in to rebut criticism of Bucur and portray opposition to her leadership as uninformed or illegitimate, even as her popularity within the village has reportedly declined.
Kenosha County Eye contacted Beinecke prior to publication and asked him specific questions, including his response to a 1999 criminal conviction and other past arrests, his employment status with the Chicago Transit Authority or a subcontractor, whether he was aware of workplace policies governing online conduct during work hours, what motivated his sustained online activism, and why he publicly announced that he was not running for Village Trustee despite not having declared a candidacy.
Beinecke did not answer any of those questions.
Instead, he responded with a written statement rejecting the premise of the inquiry and declining to address his online behavior, criminal history, employment status, or motivations. None of the factual questions posed were disputed or clarified.
Several readers also noted that Beinecke’s written response and many of his lengthy online posts exhibit stylistic traits commonly associated with AI-assisted writing, including rigid structure, repetitive phrasing, and legalistic language. While Kenosha County Eye cannot independently verify whether artificial intelligence tools were used, the consistency and tone of the writing have raised questions among residents.
After being contacted, Beinecke posted publicly on Facebook about the inquiry, asserting that he had not harassed or bullied anyone, but again did not address the specific questions or examples submitted by residents.
Kenosha County Eye offered Beinecke the opportunity to explain his conduct or provide context. He declined to do so. Readers are encouraged to review the documented interactions and draw their own conclusions about whether his online conduct reflects constructive civic engagement.
