KENOSHA, Wis. — For more than two decades, Trolley Dogs was a familiar part of downtown Kenosha’s restaurant landscape, drawing steady weekend crowds and becoming a recognizable fixture along Sixth Avenue. That run now appears to be over, as the longtime eatery is closed and, based on what is now known, is unlikely to reopen in its previous form.

      1. We’ve only eaten at Old Chicago Red Hots once so far, but quite enjoyed it.

Once summer comes, the Hawgz Dogs food truck has the most amazing dogs I’ve ever eaten in my life. I think they are from Burlington, but they were at the Kenosha Public Market several times last fall.

  1. Can’t say I’m surprised. Yes. Back in the day it was a great place to go and grab a dog. I went in there around a month or so ago because I was craving a chili dog. I’m not a huge over eater, but I can definitely eat a few of those dog’s. I looked up at the menu board and seen that it was just under 7 dollars for one chili dog. There was no way I’m spending 21 dollars for 3 chili dog’s. An 8pk of hotdogs one can of chili and buns= 8 dollars, Trolley Dogs=56 dollars.

    7
    5
    1. The guy eats chili dogs 3 at a time, but has to explain to us that he’s not a huge overeater. Then he shows off that he doesn’t understand the difference between eating at home and eating someplace with a pay all sorts of insurance, rent, wages, etc

      12

  2. You also should figure in cost of additional toilet paper, man wipes, maybe a plumber, and a new pair of jockey shorts.

    3
    3
  3. If you look closely the building is leaning, I’ve had a few people tell me they’re afraid the buildings going to fall over. After the original owners sold, it went downhill, and fast. I remember one of the owners after it was sold sexually harassing my ex-girlfriend the entire time we sat and ate. It’s unfortunate to see them go, but maybe it was time.

    1. Hit on your girlfriend “THE ENTIRE TIME WE SAT AND ATE”.

I hope she dumped you by now !
You saw it and neither confronted the guy or just left.
Either would have been better than letting her go through that.

      1. I didn’t know I was obligated to explain an entire story to a stranger. Clearly we left due to her being uncomfortable. So dramatic.

  4. I get the nostalgia of it and how it became synonymous with downtown Kenosha, but it is: hot dogs, soda, and fries. I think we can find these elsewhere, maybe just a few steps away at Century Pub.
Kenosha could go for a good: Polish restaurant, Jewish Bakery (with quality pecan rolls!), or a French restaurant, or something that is just different.
But knowing Kenosha’s clientele and taste, we will have another bar, or try to squeeze in another car dealership into that small place, if they could! 🤦‍♂️

  5. I get it that Trolly Dog’s was a Kenosha staple and almost synonymous with Kenosha food. But, they were mostly: hot dogs, fries, and soda. You can can just as good of food just a few steps away at Century Pub, or anywhere downtown. What Kenosha needs is something a little different, a good Polish, French, or a Moroccan restaurant, maybe a good Jewish Bakery that makes humongous pecan rolls.
If there are any future buyers of that place,I hope they read this comment and think about it. Kenosha has come a long way with diversity of foods, but this is exactly what we are missing these days!

    1
    5
  6. Dropping like flies now. Century Pub a shitbox comparatively. Basically they’ve tried to revitalize downtown in so many iterations but it fails to hold. Sandys Poppers noted a 30% decline in sales this past holiday season and all the surrounding stores saw the same.

    Decline is coming.

    1. Wait! Trump told us that he was going to fix the economy on his first day in office. You mean he did not do that?

      9
      11
      1. If you had an IQ over 5, you would know that the property taxes under the current governor of Wisconsin have skyrocketed, which of course has NOTHING to do with Washington.

You must be a union public school teacher…

        7
        9
        1. Wisconsin has a $2.5 billion surplus that the MAGA controlled state legislature will not do anything about, like cutting our property taxes. If we got some property tax relief, maybe we could buy more chile dogs.

          7
          4
          1. Did you count every dollar of that surplus or rely on “the ones in charge” to provide to media and you read it?

I trust no “facts” or percentages or writings anymore unless I witness it. Our society has done it to me since Covid. Everyone has an agenda, be it votes or whatever.

            Thank you for reading,
            Eore

              1. Ummm… okay….

                Blind and deaf… hmmm…

I have no clue what that means. But I’m sorry, I trust nothing I cant confirm. I was once told there were 239 beans in a chilli. One more bean would make it 2farty… I did believe that!

  7. We need another pizza joint…. ugh!

Waiting on Bob Chens to open down here… been about 5 years…

Too many bars, pizza and dawn of the dead roaming the sidewalks. Dilapidated buildings, ply wood still up. People using the once was nice library as bathrooms both inside and outside. Computers have porn on them and i ask why that can even be looked at there? Until that’s corrected – welcome to uglyville.

    8
    3
  8. Small businesses are struggling everywhere. Not just downtown. It’s just more noticeable since downtown is the heart of the city and there are so many of them clustered together

  9. Let me guess… its Trumps fault? Hahahaha! Nope… we the people made it what it is over time.

I just read where the Hollywood walk of fame is a very nasty place to go now. Open drug market with sketchyness everywhere. I went there 20 years ago and it was pretty cool. Eating was good food etc.

I get hit up for money almost every time I walk down town Kenosha. Not every time but often enough where I dont want to walk there anymore. I’ve seen vomit on the sidewalks outside one particular establishment which will remain unamed.

Oh well… we made the mess and it will take money and a massive clean up. Down by the hospitals is booming in restaurants.
We need to make the downtown an attraction not an every day horror show.
