KENOSHA, Wis. — The Kenosha Unified School District has canceled all extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, citing an Extreme Cold Warning and concerns about student and community safety.
District officials emphasized that Friday is already designated as a staff workday, meaning no students are scheduled to report to school. However, all after-school and extracurricular events have been called off due to dangerously cold temperatures expected across southeastern Wisconsin.
Activities scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, are still expected to proceed as planned.
In a message to families, the district acknowledged that the severe cold may pose safety risks, particularly for those who must travel or spend time outdoors. Families who may need assistance during the cold stretch were encouraged to review a list of designated warming centers available throughout the area.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Friday, with wind chills forecast to drop well below zero, creating hazardous conditions in a matter of minutes for exposed skin.
District officials urged families and staff to take precautions, limit outdoor exposure, and prioritize safety as the cold weather moves through the region.
