WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, chairman of the House Administration Committee, on Tuesday introduced a sweeping package of election-related legislation he says is aimed at restoring public confidence in federal elections.
The proposal, titled the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, would establish baseline requirements for how states administer elections, including mandatory photo identification for voters, stricter voter roll maintenance, and limits on voting methods used in recent election cycles.
“Americans should be confident their elections are being run with integrity,” Steil said in a statement announcing the legislation. He said the bill is designed to make voting accessible while preventing fraud and abuse.
According to Steil’s office, the legislation would require states to verify U.S. citizenship at the time of voter registration, mandate routine and more aggressive voter list maintenance, and require that mail-in ballots be received by the close of polls on Election Day. The bill would also require states to use auditable paper ballots for federal elections.
The package goes further by banning several election practices that have expanded in recent years, including ballot harvesting, ranked-choice voting, and universal vote-by-mail systems. Supporters of the legislation argue those practices undermine election security and public trust.
Several conservative election policy advocates praised the proposal. Annette Olson, CEO of the MacIver Institute, said the bill would “restore confidence in our elections” and described it as a long-sought reform effort for states like Wisconsin. Scott Presler, founder of Early Vote Action, said the legislation addresses what he described as fundamental weaknesses in the election system.
J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation and a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, said the bill clarifies state obligations under the National Voter Registration Act, particularly regarding the removal of ineligible voters from registration rolls. Another supporter, Justin Riemer of Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections, said federal election laws have long hindered states attempting to strengthen election security.
The House Administration Committee, which Steil chairs, has primary oversight authority over federal elections. Steil previously introduced the American Confidence in Elections Act during the 118th Congress, a separate but related election reform effort.
The MEGA Act is expected to be formally introduced during the House’s Friday pro forma session.

a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist….
Exactly. More performative nonsense brought to you by maga. Anything other than doing constructive things for the American people.
LOL you still sound mad you lost.
Eat a Snickers.
While suppressing votes.
How? I’d like to hear your opinion.
As long as illegal aliens have DLs, and we still allow mail in voting, it will always remain fraudulent. Fake n gay.
If you reference BallotPedia, you can find out what method of voting and tabulation each state uses. Just search “What states do not use use auditable paper ballots for federal elections.”
I think more people should consider Ranked Choice Voting which can eliminate the extreme left and right candidates from getting into office. Ranked choice voting would also help independent or center leaning candidates get elected.
Of course rank and file Democrats or Republicans abhor such a notion. Heaven forbid a person who is concerned about all voters, not just the Rs and Ds would get into office.
Take a look at Ranked Choice Voting. It’s a very common sense practice.
Thank goodness Salem got Badger Books (insert sarcasm)
Paper ballots, and same day voting. Til then, it’s fucked.
Yep, get your asses to the polls on voting day. If you are handicapped or elderly, services should be provided to get them to the polls. And if you dont vote, dont bitch!
Common sense election laws.
No surprise the radical left HATES it.
He’s running scared like the rest of his traitorous party. Can’t even face his constituents in person.
