KENOSHA, Wis. — Lance Middle School administrators are investigating a reported school shooting threat made by a student on the social media platform Discord.
In a message sent to families and staff Tuesday afternoon, school officials said they were alerted “late yesterday afternoon” to a student who allegedly made the threat to peers online.
According to the notice, school officials immediately launched an investigation and involved the Kenosha Police Department. Administrators emphasized that they do not believe students or staff are currently in danger.
“Threatening statements create fear and disrupt the sense of safety in our school community,” the message stated.
The school urged parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of making or repeating threats and reminded families that weapons of any kind are not tolerated in schools.
Officials also thanked law enforcement for their “quick response and ongoing commitment” to school safety and encouraged students, families, and staff to use the Speak Up Speak Out reporting system to report safety concerns.
Parents with questions were directed to contact the school office directly.
It was not immediately clear whether the student involved faces disciplinary or criminal consequences.
