KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha woman accused of stabbing 67-year-old Larry Shaw to death appeared in court Tuesday and was formally charged in a homicide case that investigators say followed a pattern of prior violence inside the motel room the couple shared.

Matrice L. Role, 45, of Kenosha, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, as a repeater, with use of a dangerous weapon. Court Commissioner William “Bargain Bail Billy” Michel II set cash bail at $500,000. The bail decision immediately drew criticism from some courthouse observers, who viewed the amount as far too low for a brutal homicide case and noted that many murder cases in other counties result in bail set at $1 million or higher.
