WILMOT, Wis. — Drivers in western Kenosha County should prepare for significant traffic changes beginning this week as a major resurfacing project gets underway on Highway W between the Illinois state line and Highway C in Wilmot.
According to Kenosha County officials, a soft closure of Highway W, also known as Fox River Road, will begin Thursday, April 16. A full closure of the roadway is expected to begin in early May and continue through October. Local access to homes and businesses in the work zone will remain open during the project.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is partnering with the Kenosha County Division of Highways on the project, which stretches from the Illinois border north to Highway C, also known as 113th Street.
Construction work is expected to include pavement milling and resurfacing, widening of paved shoulders, installation of an asphalt sidewalk, curb ramp replacement, storm sewer replacement, curve realignment and pavement reconstruction in downtown Wilmot and other sections of the roadway.
County officials said the timeline is weather dependent and could change.
The posted detour will route traffic around the closure using Highway C, Highway KD and Highway CK.
Project leader Kevin Klipstein can be reached at 262-397-7236 or [email protected] with questions during construction. Kenosha County Senior Transportation Engineer Doug Coeur can also be reached at 262-653-1870.

Does anyone.know when the project in HWY 31 will be finished that they just started? They lanes they are making seem quite narrow. I hope they don’t stay that way when they are finished.
If it ends up anything like the mess west of Green Bay Road on 12th in Somers, we’re all screwed..
Which morons thought this was a good idea??? Drive along on Highway W and it looks like a fucking war zone. Hundreds of trees have been removed and people’s properties have been ruined. What exactly for? A walking path that maybe three people will walk during the summer…..disgusting
Some geniuses at the county level might say “well we got a grant, so it makes sense to put the trail in”…..Yeah, you got a grant to fuck up traffic in the middle of the summer during the Kenosha County Fair for Jim Kreuser’s wet dream!
Why did Samantha Kerkman allow this shit show to continue? This moronic walking path got jammed down on us, the people west of the interstate, that are responsible for electing Samantha Kerkman, and we are going to get fucked over. SAD!!! She needs to take better care of her constituents!
Thank you Kenosha County for fucking over the residents of Salem Lakes for some stupid ass walking trail that will be a hemorrhoid for many years to come. It’s going to be ugly, annoying, expensive, and fantastic at disrupting business owners livelihoods that have businesses along Highway W!
THE STUPIDITY IS SIMPLY BREATHTAKING!
Oh yeah, let’s rip up one more road and not finish it, and pretty soon, no one will get to work or anywhere else
Interested in this. Drive on W to get to Illinois for the last few years. Don’t know too much otherwise. All for sidewalks? Are they widening the roads too? Is this for traffic, or more for looks or “accessibility”? I do feel they need a pedestrian walkway for that dance school in the afternoon. Didn’t know about that cool sports complex when I took the detour.
