KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha residents will need to plan for a temporary change in garbage and recycling pickup schedules as the Memorial Day holiday approaches, with city officials announcing that collection services will not operate on Memorial Day.
The City of Kenosha Department of Public Works said there will be no curbside collection Monday, May 25, for garbage, recycling, brush, televisions, tires, compostables, or bulk items in observance of Memorial Day.
Because of the holiday, all collection routes during the week will shift back by one day. Residents whose materials are normally collected Monday will instead be serviced Tuesday, while Friday routes will move to Saturday. Officials said normal pickup schedules will return the following week beginning June 1.
City officials are also encouraging residents who need brush, branch, television, tire, or bulk-item pickups to schedule them ahead of time. Since City Hall will be closed for the holiday, residents are being asked to contact the Department of Public Works at least one working day before their normal collection day to avoid delays.
Several city drop-off sites will also close for Memorial Day. The Bulk Drop-Off Site at 1001 50th St. will reopen Tuesday and resume its regular hours of 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Concrete and Brick/Block Drop-Off Site at 6415 35th Ave. also will reopen Tuesday and return to its normal Tuesday-through-Friday schedule of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Compostables Drop-Off Site at 4071 88th Ave. will likewise reopen Tuesday and resume regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
